Connecting Interface Cables to the E5-121 Unit(s)
After the E5-121 unit(s) is installed on the rack, connect the required interface cables to the
unit, including the fiber link(s), xDSL subscriber interfaces, and an environmental alarm
interface (for the first E5-121 unit only).
To connect E5-121 interface cables
1. Connect the environmental alarm cable to the E5-121 as follows:
a. Locate the alarm interface cable, extending from the DC power assembly.
b. Connect the alarm cable's DB-9 plug to the Alarm interface on the E5-121 front
panel. Tighten the thumbscrews to secure the connection.
2. Connect the subscriber interface cable to the E5-121 as follows:
a. Locate the 25-pair subscriber interface adapter cable near the right side of the rack
(installed previously).
b. On the E5-121 front panel, remove the tie wrap mount from the RJ-21 connector
(right side).
c. Connect the subscriber interface adapter cable to the E5-121 RJ-21 connector.
Tighten the (2) screws to securely mate the connection.
3. To re-use the existing USAM transport fibers for the E5-121, you must use a fiber
jumper (with a bulkhead adapter) to convert to an LC connection. Install user-supplied
SC-to-LC fiber jumper(s) and bulkhead adapter(s) as follows:
a. Connect a bulkhead adapter to the SC end of the fiber jumper.
