  There are several reasons why your Canon scanner might not be recognized. Ensure the scanner is properly connected to the computer with the USB cable and that the scanner is turned on. The computer’s USB interface may not fully support the scanner, or the USB cable you are using may not be compatible, so confirm that the supplied USB cable is used. If you're using a USB hub, try connecting the scanner directly to the computer. Also, if the Auto Start switch is ON, scanning from applications on the computer is disabled. If you are using Windows, and see a “?”, “!”, or “x” icon for the scanner in Device Manager, delete the scanner and reinstall the driver.

  Scanning may stop due to insufficient memory if you configure scanning conditions that use a large amount of the computer’s memory. If an error message appears due to insufficient memory while scanning is in progress, exit the application, change the scanning conditions (e.g. reduce the resolution or page size) and then try scanning again. Turning off [Moire Reduction] and [Prevent Bleed Through/Remove Background] may also help.

  If your Canon scanner is skipping pages, and the scanner driver’s [Scanning Side] setting is [Skip blank page], documents with very little black may be unintentionally skipped. Decrease the [Set the likelihood of skipping blank page] value, or select another scan mode setting such as [Simplex] or [Duplex]. If pages are skipped due to the document double feeding, see “Problem 9 Documents jam (or double-feed).”

If you find a sticky substance like glue or correction fluid, carefully wipe it away with enough pressure to clean the area where the lines appear. If cleaning doesn't solve the problem, the internal glass may be scratched. Contact your local authorized Canon dealer.

  To correct documents feeding askew in your Canon scanner, align the document guides to fit the documents closely and ensure the documents are loaded straight. Enable the [Automatically straightens skewed images] (or [Deskew]) option in the scanner driver settings. Also, ensure that the separation pad is securely attached. If many pages have been scanned since the last cleaning, clean the rollers and separation pad. Keep in mind that perfectly straight scanning may not be possible due to the scanner's design.

  If CaptureOnTouch Lite doesn't start, ensure the Auto Start switch on the Canon scanner is set to ON. Close the feed tray to turn OFF the scanner, and then set the Auto Start switch to ON. Also, check if access to USB devices is blocked by any security software.

  When the Auto Start switch on the Canon scanner is set to ON, you can only scan with the built-in application, CaptureOnTouch Lite. Close the feed tray to turn OFF the scanner, and set the Auto Start switch to OFF.
