If the lights and fan on your Caple Ventilation Hood aren't working, it could be due to a blown fuse. In this case, replace the fuse. Another possible cause is a loose power cord, so ensure that the power cord is properly plugged into the power supply.

      Robert BryanAug 18, 2025
Poor extraction performance in your Caple Ventilation Hood is often due to a filter that requires cleaning. Clean the grease filter as directed in the ‘Care and maintenance’ section. If your hood is in recirculation mode, consider replacing the charcoal filter.

Overview

This document is an instruction manual for Caple Wall Chimney Hood models FGC621, FGC721, and FGC921. It provides comprehensive information regarding the installation, operation, and maintenance of these extractor hoods.

Function Description:

The Caple extractor hood is designed to remove unpleasant odours from the kitchen environment. It is specifically intended for home use and is not suitable for barbecuing, restaurants, or other commercial purposes. The hood operates by extracting air, either through a ducted system to the outside or in recirculation mode using charcoal filters. Equipped with an electric motor and a centrifugal fan, it offers strong extraction capabilities while maintaining low noise levels. The appliance is built with high-quality materials and features a streamlined design, aiming for both aesthetic appeal and efficient performance.

Usage Features:

The operation of the Caple extractor hood is straightforward, controlled by a series of buttons:

  • OFF BUTTON: This button is used to switch off the extraction fan.
  • LOW SPEED BUTTON (1): This setting is ideal for simmering and cooking activities that produce minimal odour.
  • MEDIUM SPEED BUTTON (2): This airflow speed is recommended for standard cooking, providing effective extraction for typical kitchen tasks.
  • HIGH SPEED BUTTON (3): When a significant amount of smoke or strong odours are produced, pressing this button activates the highest speed for the most effective extraction.
  • LIGHT BUTTON: This button controls the hood's lighting, allowing users to switch the light on and off as needed.

For optimal performance, it is recommended to switch on the extractor 15 minutes before cooking begins and leave it running for 15 minutes after cooking has finished. This practice ensures that the air in the kitchen is circulated and cleaned effectively throughout the cooking process. The hood's performance can be influenced by several factors, including the type of extraction (ducted or recirculation), the volume of the room, the length of the ducting, available ventilation, and the cleanliness of the filters.

The appliance is intended for household and similar applications, such as staff kitchen areas in shops, offices, and other working environments, farmhouses, and in hotels, motels, and bed and breakfast type environments.

Maintenance Features:

Regular care and maintenance are crucial for ensuring the longevity and efficient operation of the Caple extractor hood. Before any cleaning or maintenance, it is imperative to switch off the electricity supply and remove the plug from the wall to prevent electrical shock or injury.

  • Regular Cleaning: The exterior of the cooker hood should be cleaned regularly using a soft damp cloth with lukewarm, mildly soapy water or a household cleaning detergent. Abrasive materials, metal pads, chemicals, abrasive cleaning creams, or stiff brushes should never be used, as these can damage the appliance's surfaces. Regular cleaning helps to maintain the hood's appearance and overall condition.

  • Cleaning the Grease Filter: The grease filter plays a critical role in the hood's efficiency by collecting grease, smoke, and dust. To minimize the risk of fire and ensure good working condition, the grease filter should be cleaned every month. If not cleaned regularly, accumulated grease residue can become flammable and saturate the filter, impairing its effectiveness. The filters can be easily cleaned with warm water and washing-up liquid. Alternatively, they are dishwasher safe. When cleaning in a dishwasher, it is important to wash the grease filters separately from other items to prevent food from becoming trapped in the gauze. Discolouration of the grease filters after dishwasher cleaning is normal and does not indicate a fault with the product.

  • Replacing the Charcoal Filter (CAP61CF): This maintenance task applies only if the hood is used in recirculation mode (i.e., not vented to the outside). Charcoal filters are responsible for trapping cooking odours and need to be replaced periodically. The frequency of replacement depends on how often the cooker hood is used, but a general recommendation is to replace them every 6 months. Replacement filters (CAP61CF) can be purchased directly from www.caple.co.uk. To install a charcoal filter, the grease filter must first be detached by pressing its release button and pulling it downward. The activated charcoal filter is then fitted onto the side of the motor and turned clockwise to lock it into place. This process is repeated for the other side. It is important to ensure the filter is securely locked to prevent it from loosening and potentially causing danger.

  • Replacing the Bulb: The lights on the hood must be replaced by a qualified person. To replace a bulb, first switch off the unit and unplug the appliance. Then, remove the lamp cover by unscrewing the two screws. Finally, replace the bulb with one of the same type and rated bulb/lamp fixing (LED lamp, max. 1.5W). The product contains a light source of energy efficiency class G.

The manual also includes troubleshooting steps for common issues such as lights being on but the fan not working, both lights and fan not working, or serious vibration of the unit. For any unresolved problems, users are advised to contact Caple Service.
