Overview

This document is an instruction manual for the Caple Orbit Island Hood, model 01363. It provides comprehensive information on the installation, operation, and maintenance of the appliance, ensuring safe and efficient use.

The Caple Orbit Island Hood is a domestic appliance designed to extract vapours and remove odours from cooking. It is intended for use in household and similar applications, including staff kitchen areas in shops, offices, and other working environments, farmhouses, hotels, motels, and other residential-type environments, and bed and breakfast establishments. The appliance is not intended for outdoor use.

Function Description:

The cooker hood operates by extracting air and fumes from the cooking area. It can be configured for two modes of operation: recirculation and ducted (vented) installation.

  • Recirculation Mode (Fig. 1): In this mode, the air and fumes are drawn into the appliance, cleaned by both a grease filter and an active charcoal filter, and then recirculated back into the room through the side grids of the chimney. An air deflector is placed in the upper part of the chimney to facilitate air recycling. This mode is suitable when external venting is not possible or desired.
  • Ducted Mode (Fig. 2): In ducted mode, fumes are directly conveyed outside through an evacuation duct connected from the extractor to the exterior. In this configuration, neither the charcoal filter nor the air deflector is necessary, as the air is expelled from the building.

The appliance is equipped with intelligent electronics that include a timer device for speed controls. For internal motor models with a maximum air capacity higher than 650m³/h, the speed automatically switches from 4th to 3rd speed after 5 minutes of operation. External motor models with air capacity exceeding 650m³/h at both 4th and 3rd speeds will automatically switch from 4th to 2nd speed after 6 minutes of operation. If the appliance is working at 3rd speed, it automatically switches to 2nd speed after 7 minutes of operation. Operation speeds can be changed during use. The energy consumption of the appliance in standby mode is lower than 0.5W.

Usage Features:

The Caple Orbit Island Hood is operated via a remote control, which is supplied ready to use with preset codes. The remote control is equipped with five buttons for managing the cooker hood:

  • Light ON/OFF command: Controls the lighting of the hood.
  • Motor ON (speed level 1) / OFF command: Turns the motor on at the lowest speed or off.
  • Reduce speed: Decreases the extraction speed.
  • Increase speed: Increases the extraction speed.
  • 10-minute timer: Activates a 10-minute timer function.

In the event that the remote control does not work, an emergency button is available on the hood to switch the appliance off. After any necessary repairs, the emergency button should be reset.

The remote control system allows for changing the transmission code if multiple cooker hoods are installed in the same room or nearby, to prevent interference. A new transmission code can be generated by simultaneously pressing the '+' and 'power' buttons for two seconds, then pressing the '+' and '-' buttons within 5 seconds. The LED flashing three times indicates completion. To synchronize the hood's electronic central unit with the new code, the main power-off button on the hood must be pressed, power restored, and then the Light Button pressed within 15 seconds. The factory configuration of the remote control can also be restored by simultaneously pressing the '+' and 'power' buttons for two seconds, then pressing the 'light' and 'power' buttons within 5 seconds.

Maintenance Features:

Accurate and regular maintenance is crucial for ensuring good functioning and long-lasting performance of the Caple Orbit Island Hood.

  • Grease Filter Cleaning: The metal grease filter panel requires regular cleaning, either by hand or in a dishwasher, at least every two months, or more frequently depending on usage. To remove the filter, push its handle towards the back of the cooker hood and pull it downwards to unfasten it from its slot (Fig.3A). When washing the grease filter in a dishwasher, it should be washed separately to prevent food particles from becoming trapped in the filter mesh.
  • Charcoal Filter Replacement (Recirculation Mode): When the appliance is used in recirculating mode, the active charcoal filter (Fig.8Z) needs to be periodically replaced. This filter can be removed by first removing the grease filter (Fig.3A), and then pulling its special plastic tongue until it is unfastened from its slot. Reinserting the charcoal filter involves performing the opposite operation. The active charcoal filter should be replaced at least every six months, depending on use. Replacement charcoal filters can be purchased from www.caple.co.uk.
  • Appliance Cleaning: For cleaning the appliance itself, tepid water and a neutral detergent are recommended. Abrasive products should be avoided. For steel appliances, specialised detergents are recommended, with instructions provided on the product itself for optimal results.
  • LED Light Replacement: The LED lights must only be replaced by a qualified person. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or a similarly qualified person to avoid hazards. The manual provides a procedure for replacing LED lighting, which involves unplugging the unit, carefully inserting a flat screwdriver into the edge of the LED light, removing the light from its housing, disconnecting the connector, changing the LED light, and then reversing the steps. After waiting 5 minutes, the unit can be plugged back in.
  • Remote Control Battery Replacement: The battery in the remote control should be replaced annually to ensure optimal transmitter range. To replace the battery, the plastic lid should be removed, the old battery taken out, and a new one inserted, observing the correct battery polarities. Used batteries should be discarded in special collection bins.

The product is endowed with an electronic device that automatically switches the product off after 4 hours of operation from the last command, contributing to energy efficiency and safety.
