Function Description:

The Caple WDU050 is a household appliance designed to dispose of food waste by grinding it into small particles that can be flushed down the drain. It is intended for domestic use only and operates on 220/240V~, 50/60 Hz household current. The unit features anti-jam swivel impellers, which may produce a clicking sound during operation, indicating normal function.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: WDU050
  • Voltage: 220/240V~
  • Frequency: 50/60 Hz
  • Dimensions:
    • Height: 365mm
    • Width: 197mm
    • Depth (from sink flange to bottom): 137mm

    • Recommended distance between appliance and electrical switch: within 2m.
  • Earthing: The appliance must be earthed.

Usage Features:

  • Operation Sequence:
    1. Remove the sink stopper.
    2. Turn on a medium flow of cold water.
    3. Turn on the waste disposer.
    4. Slowly insert food waste into the disposer.
    5. Position the stopper to minimize possible ejection of material during grinding.
    6. After grinding, turn off the disposer.
    7. Run cold water for at least 15 seconds to flush the drain line.
  • Food Waste Handling:
    • Can handle large bones, melon rinds, grapefruit skins, and corn cobs, but these may require considerable cutting time.
    • Grinding citrus fruit peelings can freshen drain smells.
    • It is recommended to run the disposer for 15 seconds after shredding stops, then run water for another 15 seconds to ensure thorough flushing.
  • Dishwasher Connection: The unit can be connected to a dishwasher. A plug needs to be knocked out from the dishwasher discharge inlet before connecting the hose with a hose clamp. If the plug is not removed, the dishwasher may overflow.
  • Safety Features:
    • Equipped with a red reset button (located opposite the discharge elbow, near the bottom) that trips automatically in case of overloading to protect the motor and house wiring.
    • The appliance is designed with anti-jam swivel impellers.

Maintenance Features:

  • Self-Cleaning: The disposer is self-cleaning and scours itself with each use.
  • Lubrication: The motor is permanently lubricated for life; no additional lubrication is required.
  • Splash Guard: The disposer has a removable splash guard for easy cleaning or replacement. It can be pulled out from the top and pushed down to reseat.
  • Odor Control: To relieve objectionable odors, run orange or lemon rinds through the disposer, or sprinkle a dozen ice cubes with a little household scouring powder and run them through.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a troubleshooting guide for common issues like loud noises, the disposer not starting, or leaks, with suggested solutions.

Important Usage and Maintenance Warnings:

  • DO NOT:
    • Put fingers or hands into the waste disposer.
    • Attempt to remove jammed objects without turning off the power at the mains. Use a long wooden object (e.g., wooden spoon) to loosen jams and non-magnetic long-handled tongs to remove objects.
    • Put clam or oyster shells, caustic drain cleaners, glass, china, plastic, large whole bones, metal (bottle caps, tin cans, utensils, aluminum foil), hot grease or other hot liquids, or whole corn husks into the disposer.
    • Disassemble the appliance; there are no serviceable parts.
    • Use the appliance in damp locations (e.g., bathroom, laundry room).
    • Use hot water when grinding food waste (draining hot water when not in operation is acceptable).
    • Put tin cans, bottles, bottle caps, glass, china, leather, cloth, crockery, rubber, string, feathers, etc., into the disposer.
    • Fill the disposer with food all at once; gradually feed food waste with cold water running.
    • Grind extremely fibrous food waste like whole corn husks, artichokes, or celery to avoid blockages.
    • Turn off the disposer until grinding is complete and only the sound of the motor and water can be heard.
    • Pour grease, oil, or fat into the disposer or any drain, as it can cause blockages. Dispose of cooled grease in a jar in the bin.
    • Put bleach or chemical cleaners into the disposer, as they cause serious corrosion.
  • DO:
    • Keep the stopper in the drain when not in use to prevent items from falling in.
    • Ensure the reset button is readily accessible after installation.
    • Supervise children to ensure they do not play with the appliance.
    • Ensure the disposer is empty before using the dishwasher.
    • Clean the splash guard regularly.

  • The supply cord, if damaged, must be replaced by a Caple engineer or similarly qualified person.
  • The installation process involves disassembling the sink flange assembly, preparing the sink opening, installing the sink flange with a rubber gasket or plumber's putty, and connecting the disposer to the sink flange and discharge elbow.
  • A wall-mounted control switch (not supplied) is typically used.
  • The mounting ring must be locked tightly, and leaks should be checked 24 hours after installation and first operation.
