Questions and Answers

Overview

The Caple WF1552 and WF1553 are freestanding wine cabinets designed for the optimal storage and preservation of wine. These appliances are intended for household use and similar applications, such as staff kitchen areas, farmhouses, hotels, motels, residential environments, and bed and breakfast establishments. They are specifically designed for the exclusive storage of wine.

Function Description

These wine cabinets provide a controlled environment to store wine at ideal temperatures, protecting it from fluctuations that can harm its quality. The WF1553 model features three distinct temperature zones, while the WF1552 model has two. Each zone can be set to specific temperatures, allowing for the simultaneous storage of different types of wine (e.g., red, white, and sparkling) at their recommended serving or storage temperatures. The WF1553 has an upper compartment, a middle compartment, and a lower compartment, each with its own temperature control. The WF1552 likely has two zones, typically an upper and a lower.

The temperature settings for the upper compartment range from 5°C to 18°C, and for the middle compartment (if applicable), they range from 5°C to 10°C. The lower compartment has a temperature range of 10°C to 18°C. The cabinets are equipped with a digital control panel that allows users to easily adjust and monitor the temperature in each zone. An indicator light illuminates to signify when the cooling mode is active.

A key feature is the temperature recollection function, which ensures that in the event of a power interruption, the wine cabinet remembers its previous temperature settings and reverts to them once power is restored. The appliance also includes a temperature alarm system that alerts the user if the internal cabinet temperature deviates significantly from the set range. If the internal temperature exceeds 23°C, "HI" is displayed, and an alarm sounds. If it drops below 0°C, "LO" is displayed, and the alarm sounds.

The wine cabinets are designed with an "Auto-cycle" defrost system, which automatically defrosts the refrigerated surface of the interior rear wall when the RUN cycle is off. The defrosted water is channeled into a drain pan at the back of the cabinet, where it evaporates. Additionally, a humidity system is integrated to maintain the correct level of humidity inside the cabinet. If humidity is too low, a small plastic reservoir can be filled with water and placed on the top shelf to increase moisture.

The door of the wine cabinet is reversible, allowing users to change the door opening direction to suit their space and preference. A security lock and key combination are provided to keep the wine secure.

Usage Features

Before initial use, it is recommended to let the wine cabinet stand upright for at least 2 hours after transportation to allow the cooling system to settle. The interior surfaces should be cleaned with lukewarm water and a soft cloth before loading any bottles.

The digital control panel makes temperature adjustment straightforward. For the upper and middle zones, dedicated up and down arrow keys allow for precise temperature setting. Pressing and holding these keys for approximately 5 seconds will display the actual internal temperature, reverting to the set temperature after 5 seconds. For the lower zone, similar up and down arrow keys are used to adjust the temperature. The display can also be switched between Celsius and Fahrenheit by pressing and holding both temperature adjustment keys for 3 seconds.

The internal LED light can be switched on or off using a dedicated button. To conserve energy, the LED light automatically switches off after 10 minutes. However, users can choose to keep the light on continuously by pressing and holding the light button for 5 seconds until "LP" is displayed. To revert to the energy-saving mode, the same process is followed, and "LF" will be displayed.

The shelves are designed for easy access and removal. To access bottles, shelves can be pulled out approximately one-third of the way. To remove a shelf, it should be pulled outward until it stops at the notch, then lifted upward and pulled out. This design helps prevent bottles from falling. The cabinets are capable of storing a maximum of 111 Bordeaux-style 750ml bottles. If other bottle styles, such as champagne, are stored, the maximum capacity will be less, and some shelves may need to be removed. Additional shelves (WSHELF1) are available for purchase to expand storage in the upper zone.

For optimal performance, the wine cabinet should be placed in an ambient temperature range of 16-32°C. Positioning the cabinet away from direct sunlight and heat sources (ovens, hobs, heaters, radiators) is crucial to prevent electrical consumption increases and ensure proper functioning. The appliance is fitted with a 13amp plug and should be connected to a properly installed, grounded wall outlet.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning of the wine cabinet is essential for its longevity and hygiene. Before cleaning, the appliance should be turned off and unplugged, and all items, including shelves and racks, should be removed. The interior surfaces can be cleaned with a solution of warm water and baking soda (approximately 2 tablespoons per 2 pints of water). Shelves should be washed with a mild detergent solution. When cleaning near controls or electrical parts, ensure the sponge or cloth is wrung out to remove excess water. The exterior cabinet can be cleaned with warm water and mild liquid detergent, then rinsed and wiped dry with a soft cloth.

The charcoal filter, located in the top left corner of each wine cabinet zone, plays a vital role in absorbing odors and maintaining air quality. It should be replaced every 3-6 months, depending on the unit's exposure to odors. The replacement process involves opening the door, removing the top two shelves, turning the filter to align with notches, pulling it out, inserting a new filter, and twisting it into position. Replacement charcoal filters can be purchased from www.caple.co.uk.

For short holidays (less than three weeks), the wine cabinet can be left operating. For long holidays (several months), it is recommended to remove all items, turn off the appliance, clean and dry the interior thoroughly, and leave the door slightly ajar to prevent odor and mold growth.

When moving the wine cabinet, all items should be removed, loose items (shelves) securely taped down, and the adjustable legs turned up to the base to prevent damage. The door should be taped shut, and the appliance should remain in an upright position during transportation, protected by a blanket or similar item.

Proper door closure is important; slamming the door can cause excess stress and lead to it bouncing open slightly, which can result in moisture buildup and potential overflowing of the evaporation tray.
