SECTION 00 -- GENERAL INFORMATION -- CHAPTER 4
00-4
Inspection
Inspect the breakaway components for evidence of
excessive wear or damage, and replace as
necessary.
Inspect the dog, 1, and pawl, 2, ramp surfaces for
wear or galling.
NOTICE: If the dog ramp surface is worn, the dog can
be installed to use the opposite ramp surface.
If the dog retaining hardware was loose, inspect
the mounting bolts and holes in the channel for
wear.
Check the free length of the breakaway spring; it
should be 7.75 inch ± 0.16 inch. Replace the
spring if it has collapsed to a shorter length, or if it
is cracked.
Refer to the “Adjustments” section of this manual for
additional information on troubleshooting excessive
breakaway concerns.
Assembly
1. Slide the dog into the channel and position it over
the mounting holes. Install new patch bolts, 1, or
apply a locking compound to the original bolts,
and torque to 113 N⋅m (83 lb ft).
NOTICE: The dog mounting bolts must use a locking
compound, or they will loosen during operation,
causing excessive breakaways.
