SECTION 58 - DRIVELINES - CHAPTER 1
58-2
The MD72, MD82, and MD92 disc mowers use a
telescoping 540 rpm PTO drive shaft, 1, to transfer
power to the mower. There are two versions of PTO
drive shafts used; the MD72 and MD82 disc mowers
use a standard duty 540 PTO drive shaft, while the
MD92 disc mower uses a heavy duty 540 PTO drive
shaft. Both drive shafts are equipped with
overrunning clutches, 2, built into the rear yoke, to
allow the disc mowers to coast to a stop when the
tractor PTO is disengaged. The PTO drive shaft is
connected to a pivoting jackshaft, 3, which provides
for tensioning of the belt drive to the cutter bar.
A 4V banded belt, 1, is used on all three models to
prevent belt failures due to belt rollover in tough
cutting conditions. The belt is tensioned by a
spring-loaded tensioner, 2, to simplify adjustment.
The belt drive transfers power to the bevel gearbox,
3, which is mounted on the first module, 4, called the
drive module, on the cutter bar.
