Overview

This document provides comprehensive instructions for the installation, use, and maintenance of the VM452 Built-In Microwave, Grill & Conventional Oven. It emphasizes safety precautions, operational procedures for various cooking functions, and guidelines for proper care to ensure longevity and optimal performance of the appliance.

Function Description

The VM452 is a versatile built-in appliance designed for domestic cooking, offering multiple functions including microwave, grill, combination cooking, and conventional oven capabilities. It is intended solely for food preparation and should not be used for other purposes such as drying clothes or sterilizing non-food items. The appliance features a control panel with an LED display, a scroll ring for setting parameters, and dedicated keys for different cooking modes, defrost functions, clock/timer settings, and start/stop operations.

The microwave function allows for rapid heating and cooking, with adjustable power levels (100%, 80%, 50%, 30%, or 10%). The grill function enables browning and crisping of food, with a recommendation to turn food over halfway through cooking for even results. Combination cooking modes integrate microwave, grill, and/or convection functions at pre-set temperatures, offering a blend of cooking methods for diverse dishes. The conventional oven function provides traditional heating for baking and roasting, with an option for pre-heating to reach the desired temperature before food is introduced.

Defrosting can be performed either by weight or by time. The defrost by weight function automatically adjusts the defrosting time based on the food's weight (between 100g and 2000g), while defrost by time allows manual setting of the defrost duration (between 5 and 95 minutes) at a fixed 30% power level. For smaller food items (less than 200g) during defrosting, it is advised to place them at the edge of the turntable.

The appliance also includes an "Auto Menu" feature with ten pre-programmed settings (A1 to A10) for common dishes like reheat, potato, meat, vegetables, fish, pasta, soup, cake, pizza, and chicken. These settings simplify cooking by automatically determining the appropriate power and time based on the selected food type and weight.

A Minute Minder function is available for setting a countdown timer, which operates independently of cooking functions. For safety, a Key Lock feature can be engaged when the oven is in standby mode to prevent accidental operation.

Usage Features

Before first use, it is crucial to clean the oven with soapy water and then run it on a 15-minute grill program and a 60-minute conventional oven program at maximum temperature to eliminate any manufacturing residues and associated odors.

The appliance operates on a 24-hour clock format, which can be set using the "Clock/Timer" key and the "Scroll Ring." All cooking functions, including microwave, grill, combination, and convection, are initiated by selecting the desired mode, setting the power level or temperature (where applicable), and then inputting the cooking time using the "Scroll Ring" and confirming with the "Start+30 Sec/Confirm" button. The "Start+30 Sec/Confirm" button also serves as a quick start option, cooking at 100% microwave power for 30-second increments, or for a set time when used with the "Scroll Ring" in standby mode. This button can also extend cooking time by 30 seconds during active programs.

A cooling fan is integrated to maintain low surface temperatures and maximize efficiency. This fan activates automatically with oven operation and may continue to run after use, depending on the cooking duration, temperature, and program type. The oven light remains on for all cooking functions.

For optimal performance and safety, specific guidelines must be followed:

  • Always use oven gloves when removing hot items.
  • Keep children away from the oven during use and ensure they do not play with the appliance. Children over 8 years old may perform cleaning and maintenance only under supervision.
  • Ensure the appliance and its cable are out of reach of children under 8 years old.
  • Avoid placing cooking utensils or plates directly on the oven base.
  • Always grill with the appliance door closed.
  • Do not touch heating elements inside the oven during use, as they become hot.
  • Do not grill fatty foods without using the grill rack.
  • Never cover the grill rack or oven walls with aluminum foil.
  • Do not use the oven cavity for storage.
  • Eggs in their shell and whole hard-boiled eggs should not be heated in the microwave due to explosion risk.
  • Foods with membranes (e.g., egg yolks, potatoes, chicken livers) should be pierced multiple times before microwave cooking.
  • Liquids and other foods in sealed containers should not be heated in the microwave as they are liable to explode.
  • Only use microwave-safe utensils; avoid metal pans, dishes with metal handles, or items with metal trim. Melamine dishes are also unsuitable as they absorb microwave energy.
  • Do not cook in containers with restricted openings, such as carbonated drinks or salad oil bottles, as they may explode.
  • Do not use conventional meat or sugar thermometers in the microwave.
  • Remove wire twist-ties from bags before placing them in the oven.
  • Be cautious when heating beverages in the microwave, as delayed eruptive boiling can occur. Stir liquids and allow them to stand for a few minutes after heating to distribute heat evenly.
  • Always test the temperature of cooked food, especially for babies, before consumption.
  • For foods with high fat or sugar content, avoid plastic containers.
  • Be aware that cooking utensils can become hot due to heat transfer from food, especially if plastic wrap was used.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and maintenance are essential for the appliance's longevity and safe operation.

  • The oven should be cleaned regularly, and any food deposits removed.
  • Do not perform maintenance or cleaning without first switching off the electricity supply and allowing the oven to cool if it has been recently used.
  • The oven exterior, being stainless steel, should be cleaned with a non-abrasive cleaner, such as a dilute solution of water and mild detergent, followed by drying with a clean cloth. Abrasive cleaners (e.g., Cif) can scratch the surface and erase control panel markings. Proprietary stainless steel cleaners, like the CDA E-Cloth, are recommended to preserve the finish.
  • The oven interior (cavity) should be cleaned after each use, once it has cooled down, using a mild detergent solution and warm water.
  • Steam cleaners must not be used on this appliance.
  • After any care or maintenance, ensure all parts are correctly replaced before using the oven.
  • The glass turntable, roller arms, coupling, and roller track must always be in place when operating the microwave oven. The glass turntable should never be placed upside down, and its movement should not be restricted.
  • If smoke is emitted, switch off or unplug the appliance and keep the door closed to stifle any flames.
  • The appliance contains no user-serviceable parts. Any maintenance or repair requiring the removal of covers that protect against microwave energy or high voltages must only be performed by suitably qualified personnel.
  • If the supply cable is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its approved service agent, or similarly qualified persons to avoid hazards.
  • In case of appliance malfunction, first check if it is switched on, if the mains supply is active, and if the fuse in the spur has not blown. If a fault persists or a fault code is displayed, contact CDA Customer Care.
  • The appliance must be earthed. If an alternative plug is used, it must be at least 13 Amp rated to BS 1363, and wiring connections must follow specific color codes: GREEN and YELLOW to Earth (E), BLUE to Neutral (N), and BROWN to Live (L). The plug socket should be easily accessible after installation.
