This document provides information for the ChimneyFree electric fireplace models CFI-470-12-01, CFI-470-12-02, CFI-470-12-04. It covers getting started, preparation, important instructions, operation, bulb replacement, troubleshooting, replacement parts, care and maintenance, and a 1-year limited warranty.
Function Description:
The ChimneyFree electric fireplace is designed to provide supplemental heat and a visual flame effect. It operates by drawing in air, heating it, and then circulating it into the room. The flame effect is created by a light source and a spinning mechanism. The device includes controls for power, flame brightness, and thermostat settings to adjust the heat output and maintain a desired room temperature. It is intended for indoor use only and should not be used as a primary heating source or for drying clothes.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Voltage/Tension: 120VAC, 60 Hz
- Amps/Amperios: 12.5 Amps
- Watts/Potencia: 1500 Watts (1500 W)
- Heat Output: Provides supplemental heat up to 1000 square feet (93 square meters).
- Bulb Type: Clear, 40 Watt, E12 socket base light bulb (candelabra base, B bulb) for the flame effect.
- Power Cord: Equipped with a polarized plug (one blade wider than the other) to reduce the risk of electrical shock.
Usage Features:
- Power Switch: Turns the unit on and off. The switch illuminates when the heater is on.
- Flame Brightness Dimmer: A rotary knob that increases or decreases the brightness of the flame effect. Turning clockwise increases brightness, counter-clockwise decreases it.
- Heater Switch: Controls the heat output. The 1000W switch turns on the low heat setting, and the 1500W switch turns on the high heat setting. Both 1000W and 1500W switches must be on for the high heat setting.
- High Heat: 1000W(ON) + 1500W(ON)
- Low Heat: 1000W(ON) + 1500W(OFF)
- Thermostat Dial: A rotary knob used to set the desired room temperature. Turning the knob clockwise increases the desired temperature, and turning it counter-clockwise decreases it. The heater will automatically maintain the set comfort level by cycling on and off.
- Safety Features:
- Overheating Protection: The unit is equipped with a thermal protector that will trip and turn off the heater if it overheats. In such a case, all switches should be turned to "OFF," the unit unplugged for 5 minutes, and then plugged back in to operate normally.
- Polarized Plug: Designed to fit into a polarized outlet only one way, reducing the risk of electrical shock. If the plug does not fit, a qualified electrician should be contacted.
- Assembly: Requires a Phillips head screwdriver for leg assembly. Legs slide into the base and are fastened with three screws per leg.
Maintenance Features:
- Cleaning:
- Trim: Clean the trim using a soft cloth, slightly dampened with citrus oil based product, and buff with a clean soft cloth. Avoid using polish or abrasive cleaners on the metallic contour.
- Citrus Oil Based Products: Recommended for cleaning and can be found at supermarkets or hardware stores.
- Bulb Replacement:
- Unplug the stove.
- Remove the screws holding the stove back panel in place.
- Remove the back panel to access the light bulb.
- Pinch the spring clip to loosen the spindle, and gently turn and pull the rubber grommet out of the spinner motor shaft. Remove the spindle and set aside.
- Remove the light bulb and replace it with a Clear, 40 Watt, E12 socket base light bulb (candelabra base, B bulb).
- Reinstall the spindle and reinstall the stove back panel into position, being careful not to overtighten the screws.
- General Maintenance:
- Disconnect power before attempting any maintenance or cleaning to reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock, or personal injury.
- Do not run the cord under carpeting. Do not cover the cord with throw rugs, runners, or the like. Arrange the cord away from traffic areas and where it will not be tripped over.
- To disconnect the appliance, turn controls to the off position, then remove the plug from the outlet.
- Avoid blocking air intakes or exhaust in any manner. Do not use on soft surfaces, like a bed, where openings may become blocked.
- Do not use in areas where gasoline, paint, or flammable liquids are used or stored.
- Do not use as a drying rack for clothing. Christmas stockings or decorations should not be hung in the area of the fireplace.
- Troubleshooting: The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting guide for common issues such as:
- No power, switches do not light up.
- Stove does not turn on manually.
- Flames are not moving.
- Flames are not visible.
- Flames are not bright.
- Heater is not turning off/on.
- Not producing enough heat.
- Unit blows cool or cold air.
- Noise with heater on/off.
- Power cord gets warm.
- Is it safe to place unit on carpet?
- How many square feet will my unit warm up?
- Heater doesn't work, but Power and Heater switches are in the "ON" position and thermostat is set on the highest level.
For each problem, a root cause and corrective action are provided, often recommending checking connections, replacing parts (e.g., power switch, dimmer switch, thermostat, heater blower motor, flame generator drive motor, light bulb), or contacting customer service.
