This document serves as the user manual for CHiQ Hybrid Chest Freezers, models CCF199WE, CCF198BE, CCF142WE, and CCF141BE. It provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation, installation, and maintenance of the appliance.
Function Description
The CHiQ Hybrid Chest Freezer is designed for domestic use, offering flexible temperature control to function as either a freezer or a fridge. Its primary purpose is to store food items at optimal temperatures, preserving their quality and freshness. The "hybrid" functionality allows users to switch between freezer and fridge modes, adapting to varying storage needs. The appliance utilizes R600a flammable refrigerant in its sealed system, an environmentally friendly choice that does not damage the ozone layer or increase the greenhouse effect.
Usage Features
Part Names and Locations:
The freezer consists of a handle, hinge, basket, cabinet, drain outlet, and adjustable feet. An accessory bag is included, containing a user manual, warranty card, and an ice scraper.
Important Safety Instructions:
The manual emphasizes the importance of following basic precautions to reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock, or injury. It is designed for normal domestic use and not for commercial applications. Users with limited experience or physical capabilities should be supervised. Children should also be supervised to prevent them from playing with the appliance and should not perform cleaning or maintenance without supervision. It is critical to read all instructions before operation and avoid attempting repairs or modifications, as this can void the warranty. All users should be informed of and comply with the details in the manual and product Terms and Conditions. Packaging materials should be kept out of reach of children. Any defects should be reported to CHiQ or the retailer immediately. The power cord, if damaged, must be replaced by a qualified service agent to prevent injury.
R600a Warnings:
The appliance contains R600a refrigerant (142L model: 0.045KG; 199L model: 0.057KG). During transport and installation, care must be taken not to damage the refrigerant circuit. Leaking refrigerant is flammable and can ignite. In case of damage, avoid open flames or spark-creating devices, disconnect the appliance from mains power, and ventilate the room. Customer Service should be notified. The room for installation must be at least 1 cubic meter per 8 grams of refrigerant. Explosive substances, such as aerosol cans with flammable propellants, should not be stored in the appliance. Only authorized service personnel should perform servicing or repairs. Ventilation openings must be kept clear. Mechanical devices other than those recommended by the manufacturer should not be used to accelerate defrosting. Electrical appliances should not be used inside food storage compartments unless recommended by the manufacturer.
Installation Instructions:
Before use, remove all packing and allow the unit to stand upright for approximately 4 hours to stabilize the cooling system. Clean the interior with warm water and a soft cloth. The freezer is designed for free-standing use and should not be recessed or built-in. At least 10cm of space should be left between the back and sides for proper air ventilation, as insufficient space can lead to cooling and working life issues and void the warranty. The freezer should be placed on a level, strong floor surface, preferably concrete, tile, or waterproof, to prevent vibrations and accommodate defrost water or condensation. It should not be placed on timber or laminate floors, as compressor heat might cause discoloration. The appliance should be situated away from direct sunlight and heat sources (stove, heater, radiator) to prevent increased power consumption and potential acrylic coating damage. This unit is not designed for outdoor installation and should be kept away from moist or pest-infested areas. It must be plugged into a dedicated, properly grounded wall outlet, and the ground prong should never be cut or removed. After plugging in, turn the unit on and allow it to cool for 4-6 hours before loading food. Heavy items should not be placed on top of the appliance.
Operating Instructions:
Do not load the appliance immediately after switching it on; wait 4-6 hours for it to reach the correct temperature.
Control Panel:
The control panel features a digital display showing the temperature in Celsius, along with "+" and "-" buttons for adjustment. There are indicators for fridge mode (8°C to 2°C), freezer mode (-12°C to -24°C), and fast freeze mode (-32°C). The "3s to unlock" and "3s to fast freeze" labels indicate specific functions. The display lights up when powered on and restores to normal after 2 seconds. If no key operation occurs within 3 minutes, the display turns off, and all keys lock. To wake the display, press any key. To unlock the keys, hold down the "-" key for 3 seconds.
Freezer & Fridge Operation:
Temperature ranges are adjustable: 8°C to 2°C for fridge mode and -12°C to -24°C for freezer mode, adjustable in a cycle. After unlocking keys, the temperature display flashes when "+" or "-" is pressed for the first time, allowing adjustment. In fridge mode, 4°C is recommended for normal use, but can be adjusted. In freezer mode, -18°C is recommended for normal use, but can be adjusted.
Fast Freeze Function:
Activating "Fast Freeze" automatically sets the freezer temperature to -32°C. After 26 hours, the function turns off. This rapid cooling helps prevent nutrition loss and preserves freshness. While "Fast Freeze" is active, the display shows "-32°C" and cannot be changed. To enter or exit "Fast Freeze," hold the "+" key for 3 seconds when keys are unlocked. If the freezer was in freezer mode (below 0°C) before "Fast Freeze," it will return to the previous set temperature afterward. If it was in fridge mode (above 0°C), it will default to -18°C after "Fast Freeze" exits. The appliance uses a sensitive thermostat to maintain stable internal temperatures, which may cause the compressor to cycle on and off more frequently, a normal operation.
Frost or Ice on Top Cabinet Edge/Door Hinge:
The appliance's seal design includes small holes near the hinge area to quickly release air pressure, allowing the door to be opened faster. This design may cause minor air exchange, leading to frost or ice buildup near the hinge. This is normal and does not affect freezer performance; it can be easily wiped off.
Maintenance Features
Defrosting:
Manual defrosting is required when an ice layer of approximately 7 mm (1/4") has formed. Before defrosting, set the temperature to -24°C for 6 hours to ensure food is at its lowest temperature before removal. Store food in a cool place during defrosting. Switch off the freezer and unplug it. Leave the lid open and remove the freezer basket. Warm water can be used to speed up defrosting. Never use sharp metal tools, as this can damage the gas pipe or inner liner and void the warranty. There is a drain hole with a plug on the bottom back of the freezer and a rubber cap inside. Remove the plug and cap to collect water from the drain hole. After all water has drained, replace the plug and cap, and thoroughly dry the interior. Switch on the freezer and leave it on for about three hours before reloading.
General Care and Maintenance:
Upon installation, the appliance should be thoroughly cleaned and maintained. Turn off and unplug the freezer before cleaning. Remove all food content. Wash the interior with a damp cloth soaked in lukewarm water and dishwasher liquid. Do not use chemical detergents that might damage the coating or inner liner. Keep the door gasket (seal) clean to ensure efficient operation and prevent dislodging or tearing. Dry the interior and exterior with a soft cloth.
Vacation Time:
For short vacations (less than three weeks), leave the freezer operating. For long vacations (several months), remove all food, unplug the power cord, clean and dry the interior thoroughly, and leave the lid slightly open to prevent odors and mold growth. Exercise caution with children, ensuring the unit is not accessible for play.
Repositioning and Relocating the Freezer:
Unplug the power cord and remove all food and drinks. Securely tape down all loose items inside and tape the doors closed. It is recommended to transport the freezer in an upright position. If laid down for transport, lift it upright immediately afterward and wait at least 24 hours before plugging it in.
Energy Saving Tips:
Allow hot foods to cool to room temperature before placing them in the freezer. Overloading the freezer forces the compressor to work harder, and slow freezing can reduce food quality or cause spoilage. Properly wrap foods and wipe containers dry before placing them in the freezer to reduce frost buildup. Organize and label food to minimize door openings and search times. Remove multiple items at once and close the door as quickly as possible.
Troubleshooting Guide:
The manual includes a troubleshooting guide to address common issues such as the freezer having no power, the compressor running continuously, the interior being too cold, warm exterior walls, popping or cracking sounds, bubbling or gurgling sounds, vibrations, moisture on the outside, and doors not closing properly. Solutions are provided for each issue, such as checking power connections, adjusting temperature settings, ensuring proper clearances, cleaning seals, and leveling the appliance.
