Fan Modules
The Cisco NCS 5064 chassis has slots for three 2+1 redundant fan modules. The fan modules are hot-swappable.
Fan options need to be configured with the base chassis. The Cisco NCS 5064 system supports both forward
and reverse airflow. The system can work with a single fan failure. More than one fan failure leads to system
shutdown. The following table lists the fan modules that are configurable with the Cisco NCS 5064 router.
To replace the fan module, see the (Only for NCS 5064) Replacing a 2 (RU) Fan Module procedure.

System Air flow
Power supplies and fan modules must maintain the same air flow direction. The airflow direction can be
identified based on the PID description and the handle color of both power supplies and fan modules.
Note, however, that the NC5K-PUV-1200W power supply can operate in both (front to back and back to
front) air flow directions. When this power supply is used, the Cisco IOS-XR software automatically configures
the PSU fan direction, based on the system fan modules that are inserted in the chassis. Do not mix power
supplies and fan modules with different air flow directions. Such mixing leads to a system shutdown.
Do not mix power supplies and fan modules with different air flow directions. This will lead to a system
shutdown.
Filters are not mandatory. At any given time, the system may have either a port side intake filter or a port side
exhaust filter, and not both.
