Connecting the Supervisor Engine Uplink Ports
This section describes how to connect to the supervisor engine uplink ports.
Warning
Because invisible laser radiation may be emitted from the aperture of the
port when no cable is connected, avoid exposure to laser radiation and do
not stare into open apertures.
Note In a redundant configuration with two supervisor engines, the uplink ports on
the redundant (standby) supervisor engine are active and can be used for
normal traffic, like any other ports in the chassis.
To connect to the supervisor engine uplink ports, perform these steps:
Step 1 Remove the plugs from the Gigabit Interface Converter (GBIC) optical bores;
store them for future use.
Step 2 Remove the plugs from the SC-type connector on the fiber-optic cable. Insert the
connector into the GBIC. (See Figure 3-8.)
