Overview

This document serves as an operating and usage instruction manual for Comfort PLUS Adjustable Beds, emphasizing "The Art of Relaxation." It provides comprehensive guidance for both corded and cordless handset operations, explains the integrated massage system, details additional optional features, offers advice on maximizing the benefits of an adjustable bed, and outlines care and safety guidelines, along with warranty information.

Function Description

The Comfort PLUS Adjustable Bed is a sophisticated piece of furniture designed to enhance relaxation and comfort through its adjustable positioning and optional integrated massage system. Handmade by craftsmen in England, these beds are built for durability and reliable service. The primary function of the bed is to allow users to adjust the head and foot sections to various positions, catering to individual comfort preferences and potentially aiding in conditions like back pressure relief and improved sleep. The bed's adjustability is controlled via a handset, available in both corded and cordless versions, offering intuitive control over its various functions.

An optional, integrated massage system further enhances the bed's relaxation capabilities. This system features multiple massage zones within the mattress, allowing for targeted or full-body massage. Users can select different massage modes (Wave, Pulse, Select), adjust intensity, and control speed, providing a customizable massage experience.

Additional optional features, exclusively available with cordless beds, include an underbed lighting strip and a Lamp Box Unit. The underbed lighting strip illuminates the floor around the bed, providing safety and convenience for nighttime movement. The Lamp Box Unit allows a bedside lamp to be plugged in and controlled directly from the bed's cordless handset, integrating lighting control with bed adjustments.

Usage Features

General Operation:

The bed's core functionality revolves around its adjustable sections. Users can raise or lower the back and foot sections independently or simultaneously to find their most comfortable position. This adjustability is particularly beneficial for reading, watching television, or alleviating pressure points during sleep. The manual recommends using only one pillow with an adjustable bed, as the bed itself is designed to provide the necessary support that multiple pillows would otherwise offer. It also suggests re-adjusting the bed nightly to suit current needs, rather than maintaining a fixed position. For those seeking improved mobility upon waking, a short, strong massage in the morning is recommended.

Corded Handset Operation:

The corded handset features six buttons:

  • S1: Raises the back section.
  • S2: Lowers the back section.
  • S3: Raises the foot section.
  • S4: Lowers the foot section.
  • S5: Raises both back and foot sections together.
  • S6: Lowers both back and foot sections together. Users are advised to familiarize themselves with these buttons to effectively control the bed's movements.

Cordless Handset Operation:

The cordless handset offers more advanced features, including memory functions and controls for optional accessories.

  • Memory Functions: The bed can store up to three preferred positions. To save a position, the user first adjusts the bed to the desired comfort, then presses the 'S' button three times, followed by pressing S4, S5, or S6 within four seconds. A beep from the motor and a flashing light on the handset (S14) confirm the position is saved. Subsequently, pressing the corresponding button (1, 2, or 3) will automatically move the bed to the stored position. The system only remembers the last stored position for each memory slot.
  • S1: Memory option 1.
  • S2: Controls the optional bedside table lamp via the Lamp Box Unit.
  • S3: Controls the optional underbed lighting strip.
  • S4: Lowers the head and foot ends together.
  • S5: Raises the head and foot ends together.
  • S6: Lowers the head end only.
  • S7: Raises the head end only.
  • S8: Lowers the foot end only.
  • S9: Raises the foot end only.
  • S10: Illuminates a light feature on the handset.
  • S11: Handset light.

Massage System Operation (if fitted):

The massage system is controlled via a dedicated handset, available in two versions: one with numbered zones (1-5) and another with lettered zones (A-E). Both function similarly.

  • Power (PWR): Switches the massage system on/off. It is programmed to automatically switch off after 15 minutes of continuous use.
  • Zones: Buttons corresponding to the five massage zones within the mattress (upper back, lower back, upper thigh, lower thigh, calf region). Users can select individual zones for targeted massage.
  • Intensity: Increases or decreases the massage intensity, ranging from relaxing to vigorous.
  • Speed: Adjusts the speed of the massage cycle when in "wave" mode.
  • Modes:
    • Wave: Operates each zone sequentially from top to bottom, creating a waving motion.
    • Pulse: Delivers short bursts of power to the selected zones.
    • Select: Provides continuous massage to the selected zones.

Important Information for Massage System Users:

Individuals with diagnosed medical conditions or fitted medical devices (e.g., pacemakers) should consult a medical practitioner before using the Relaxor Massage System. It is recommended to start with short massage sessions and gradually increase duration as the body adjusts. Any adverse reactions should prompt immediate consultation with a medical practitioner.

Additional Options (Cordless Beds Only):

  • Underbed Lighting Strip: Activated by pressing S3 on the cordless handset. It illuminates the floor for safe movement in the dark. Pressing S3 again switches it off.
  • Lamp Box Unit: Allows a bedside lamp to be plugged in and controlled by S2 on the cordless handset. The unit can be placed anywhere in the room.

Maintenance Features

Troubleshooting (Corded Handset):

If the bed is not working, users should check:

  1. The plug is firmly in the wall socket and switched on.
  2. The wall socket is functional (by plugging in another appliance).
  3. The batteries in the handset are working. If problems persist, contact customer service.

Troubleshooting (Cordless Handset):

For non-responsive cordless beds:

  1. Verify the plug is in the wall and switched on.
  2. Confirm the wall socket is working.
  3. If the connection between the handset and motor is lost (e.g., after a power cut), re-establish it by:
    • Unplugging the bed from the mains.
    • Removing batteries from the bed motor.
    • Waiting approximately 30 seconds.
    • Plugging the bed back in (but don't switch on power yet).
    • Pressing S7 and S8 simultaneously on the handset until its light flashes.
    • Switching on the electrical power at the wall (a beep from the motor should be heard).
    • Reconnecting the batteries in the motor.

Troubleshooting (Underbed Lighting Strip):

If the lighting strip isn't working, ensure its lead is firmly connected to the bed motor.

Troubleshooting (Lamp Box Unit):

If the Lamp Box Unit isn't working:

  1. Unplug the lamp from the unit.
  2. Plug the lamp directly into a wall socket and ensure it lights up when switched on.
  3. Unplug the lamp from the wall (do not switch it off).
  4. Ensure the Lamp Box Unit is firmly plugged into the wall socket and powered on.
  5. Plug the lamp back into the Lamp Box.
  6. Press S7 and S8 simultaneously on the control handset until its light flashes.
  7. Locate the red slide switch on the Lamp Box Unit, slide it one way, then back again.
  8. The handset light should stop flashing, and the lamp should now be operable via S2.

Care and Safety:

  • Handset Placement: Keep the handset in a safe position to prevent damage from careless use.
  • Movement Obstructions: Ensure nothing restricts the bed frame's movement. Always return the bed to its flat position after use to prevent trapping.
  • Mattress Protection: Protect the mattress from bodily fluids using appropriate coverings.
  • Mattress Appearance: The quilting may appear to have excess material when the bed is raised; this is normal and designed to aid profiling, returning to its original state when flat.
  • Sitting on Sides: Avoid sitting on the side of the bed for prolonged periods.
  • Cordless Bed Batteries: Cordless beds have two backup batteries in the motor to return the bed to a flat position during a power cut. These batteries should be changed every 12 months.

Assembly and Relocation:

All Comfort PLUS beds are assembled on-site by professionally trained technicians. Users are strongly advised to call customer service (01462 678050) if the bed needs to be relocated, as disassembling it yourself may invalidate the lifetime guarantee.

Warranty:

Comfort PLUS Products offers a lifetime guarantee on their adjustable beds, underscoring their commitment to quality and customer peace of mind.
