Overview

The Community IV6-LAU is a light array frame adapter U-bracket designed for use with Community I SERIES IV6 modular vertical arrays, specifically for indoor applications. Its primary function is to facilitate various ancillary array mounting configurations and to integrate IV6 arrays with I SERIES BalancePoint™ Flyware and other third-party mounting systems.

Function Description:

The IV6-LAU acts as an intermediary bracket, connecting the IV6-LAF-PBB Array Frame to different mounting surfaces or rigging systems. It is engineered to support a range of array aiming angles and configurations, making it a versatile component for professional audio installations. The bracket itself is a U-shaped component, designed to be bolted to the IV6-LAF-PBB frame, which then attaches to the loudspeakers.

One of its key functions is to enable under-balcony mounting for smaller IV6 arrays (typically two to three elements). In this scenario, the LAU provides a low-profile mechanism for rigidly mounting the array to a solid overhead surface. It incorporates built-in aiming options (0°, 5°, 10°, and 15° tilt) that allow installers to adjust the overall array aiming angle, optimizing sound coverage for the specific venue.

Another significant application of the IV6-LAU is in suspending I SERIES 600 or I SERIES 800 subwoofers behind an array of up to six IV6-1122 elements. This is achieved by using the BalancePoint™ Flyware SBR54 (54" long Sub Behind Fly Rails), with the IV6-LAU bolted to the IV6-LAF in the 0° position. This configuration allows for a compact and integrated subwoofer solution within the main array.

The IV6-LAU also supports suspending an array of up to six IV6-1122 elements using the BalancePoint™ Flyware IAF55 (55" wide Isometric Array Frame). The IAF55 is designed to fly a central IV6-1122 array with additional I SERIES fill speakers to the left and right, and can also be combined with the SBR54. For this application, the IV6-LAU is again bolted to the IV6-LAF in the 0° position.

Furthermore, the IV6-LAU can be used to suspend an array of up to six IV6-1122 or up to three IV6-118S elements from one or more load-rated eyebolts or similar lifting hardware. In this case, the IV6-LAU is bolted to the IV6-LAF in the 0° position, provided the total weight does not exceed the specified Working Load Limit (WLL) with a 10:1 safety ratio.

A specialized "downfill" application involves attaching an I SERIES COMPACT (IC6) loudspeaker to the bottom of an IV6 array. The LAU is attached to the IV6-LAF-PBB frame as close as possible beneath the center of mass of the array, and the IC6 yoke is securely connected to the LAU. For this specific use, the IV6-LAU U-bracket is connected using the center hole, allowing it to rotate into a self-leveled position before the bolts are tightened.

Usage Features:

The IV6-LAU is designed for ease of assembly and integration within complex rigging systems. Before assembly, users are advised to determine the required tilt angle and the approximate center of balance of the array for optimal placement on the light array frame. The U-bracket is attached to the IV6-LAF by inserting bolts into the "pivot" position first, then securing the desired angle with the other bolt. For close surface mount applications, it may be more convenient to mount the U-bracket to the surface before adding the IV6-LAF-PBB frame and loudspeakers.

The manual emphasizes the importance of using the RiSC module in EASE® Focus 3 software to ensure that mounting point system Safe Working Load (SWL) and required Safety Factor are not exceeded. This software, which includes customized Community IV6 GLL data files and a custom Rigging Safety Calculator (RISC) module, helps designers model the array and verify its structural integrity. The system design report generated from EASE® Focus 3 should be utilized during installation. For sub-behind applications, the "IV6 Sub Behind Hang Point Calculator" is available to ensure proper deployment of the IV6-SB-AF bracket.

Installation and assembly tips include testing all cabinets before hanging, arranging cabinets in the correct order, and loosely attaching appropriate splay brackets. Preset attenuation settings should be applied per the EASE® Focus 3 model. When using the IV6-SB-AF, the carriage on the array frame should be adjusted to the suggested pin setting before attaching loudspeakers. Cabinets should be oriented so the horns align along the length of the array, which also aligns the input panels for easy wiring. Splay bracket connections should be left slightly loose until all cabinet connections are made, then tightened evenly.

A critical safety feature is the requirement for the hex head Grade 10.9 rigging bolts to fill any unused holes (at the bottom of a flown array or at the top and bottom of a ground stack) to seal the enclosure from air leaks. Failure to do so can compromise low-frequency performance, leading to distortion, reduced output, and premature driver failure.

For safety, the center of mass of the array MUST be located directly beneath the IV6-LAF-PBB Array Frame. If the center of mass is located behind the array frame, it can result in an unsafe rigging condition. This condition must be verified using EASE® Focus 3, specifically in the "Rigging" pane. The LAU is only to be used with LAF pin positions 3-12.

Maintenance Features:

The IV6-LAU, like other I SERIES rigging accessories, is engineered for ruggedness and durability. It is carefully packed in sturdy cartons to prevent damage during shipping. Users are advised to thoroughly inspect each unit upon removal from packaging. In case of shipping damage, claims must be filed directly with the freight company, and the carton and packing material should be retained.

General maintenance involves cleaning the apparatus with a dry cloth only. It should not be used near water (for indoor models). Ventilation openings should not be blocked, and the unit should not be installed near heat sources. Only manufacturer-specified and approved attachments and accessories should be used.

All servicing should be referred to qualified service personnel, especially if the apparatus has been damaged, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.

The manual stresses the importance of safety precautions, using terms like CAUTION, WARNING, and DANGER to highlight critical considerations. Installation should only be performed by trained and qualified personnel, and it is strongly recommended that a licensed and certified professional structural engineer approve the mounting plan. Disregarding or exceeding safe working load limits can result in injury or death.

A secondary safety cable and associated hardware are not included but are recommended. Users should consult applicable codes and a structural engineer for appropriate cable/hardware for the load, application, and locale. If required, the safety cable must be secured to a suitable load-bearing point separate from the array mounting point, with as little slack as possible to prevent undue kinetic force if the primary array mount fails. The IV6-LAF-PBB has unused holes where a secondary safety cable can be attached. For the GlidePoint™ Array Frame (IV6-GP-AF), a secondary safety cable mounting point is available from PolarFocus. For the Sub Behind Array Frame (IV6-SB-AF), custom secondary attachment points can be obtained from PolarFocus.

Tools needed for assembly include a metric socket and ratchet set, and a metric wrench set.
