Overview

The Concept Pro VXH5AHD Digital Video Recorder (DVR) is a robust surveillance solution designed for recording and managing video from analogue cameras. Available in 4, 8, and 16 channel configurations (VXH5AHD-4, VXH5AHD-8, VXH5AHD-16), this DVR offers a comprehensive suite of features for both basic and advanced security needs. Its user-friendly interface, accessible via a local monitor or web browser, simplifies setup, operation, and maintenance.

Function Description

The primary function of the VXH5AHD DVR is to record video footage from connected analogue cameras. It supports various resolutions, including 720P, 2MP, and 5MP, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of camera types. The DVR acts as a central hub for video input, audio input/output, and network connectivity, allowing for remote access and integration into existing security infrastructures.

Video input is handled via BNC analogue video input terminals, accommodating multiple cameras depending on the model (4, 8, or 16 channels). Audio inputs are available through RCA terminals for devices like microphones, enabling synchronized audio recording with video. For monitoring, the DVR provides both VGA and HDMI display outputs, supporting resolutions up to 1920x1080 for connection to main display monitors. An additional BNC analogue spot display output is available for dedicated spot monitoring.

Network connectivity is facilitated by an RJ45 Ethernet port, allowing the DVR to connect to the internet, a router, or a hub. This enables remote viewing, management, and integration with the Concept Pro Viewer app for smartphones. The DVR also includes USB ports for connecting peripheral devices such as a mouse or external storage devices for data export.

For control, the DVR features an IR remote control receiver, allowing users to operate the device with the included remote control. RS-485 serial interface ports are provided for connecting PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) cameras or keyboards, offering enhanced camera control capabilities. Alarm relay output terminals (N/O, N/C, COM) and alarm input terminals (IN1, IN2, GND) allow for integration with external alarm systems, triggering recordings or notifications based on alarm events.

The DVR's status is indicated by an LED on the front panel, displaying the status of power, recording, network activity, and alarms, providing a quick visual overview of the system's operational state.

Usage Features

The VXH5AHD DVR is designed for ease of use, offering a quick start guide to facilitate initial setup. Upon first boot-up, a Network Setup Wizard guides users through configuring important network settings, including DHCP or static IP address assignment.

Recording profiles are a key feature, allowing users to select from various automatic configurations such as Continuous Recording, Motion Record, Alarm Record, and combinations thereof. These profiles can be set for different qualities (High Quality, Low Quality) and durations, optimizing storage usage. For more granular control, a Manual Configuration option allows for customized recording profiles and schedules. The DVR supports intensive recording modes, which continuously record at low quality and switch to high quality when motion or alarm events occur, ensuring critical moments are captured in detail while conserving storage.

Searching recorded video is intuitive, with options for Time Search, Thumbnail Search, Event Search, and Text-in Search. Users can specify dates and times from a calendar, and recording data is visually represented by color-coded bars (Light Green for Pre-Recording, Green for Continuous, Blue for Motion, Red for Alarm, Yellow for Panic), making it easy to identify different types of events. Playback controls allow users to navigate through the timeline, zoom in/out, and select specific items for viewing.

Archiving recorded videos is a straightforward process. Users can select specific dates and times from a calendar, and the DVR allows for the inclusion of channel data, logs, codecs, and players in the archive. The system supports exporting archives to external USB storage devices or reserving data on the internal hard disk. Reserved data is protected from overwriting, ensuring important footage is retained. The maximum backup capacity for a single archive operation is 20GB, with automatic adjustments to the end time if the request exceeds this limit.

The DVR also supports Video Analytics (VA) functionality, including line crossing, area entrance/exit, loitering, stopped, and object removed detection, provided the connected cameras are equipped with these features and the necessary licenses are recognized. The system offers a wizard to configure VA rules, calibrate camera accuracy, and set schedules for these analytics.

Remote access is a significant usage feature. The DVR can be accessed from a PC via a web browser (Internet Explorer is recommended for full functionality, but Firefox and Chrome are supported with reduced functionality) by entering the device's IP address and HTTP port number. This allows for viewing live video, searching and playing back recorded footage, archiving, and configuring recorder options remotely.

For mobile access, the "Concept Pro Viewer" app is available on iOS App Store and Android Play Store. Users can add devices via QR Code, DDNS Details, or IP Address. The app integrates with Sequrinet, a service that facilitates easy and convenient access to devices from a smartphone. Users can register or log in to their Sequrinet account through the app, scan QR codes from the DVR's interface to quickly add devices, and then view live video and manage their surveillance system on the go.

Maintenance Features

The VXH5AHD DVR incorporates several features to aid in maintenance and ensure continuous operation. The status LED on the front panel provides immediate visual feedback on the device's operational status, allowing for quick identification of any power, recording, network, or alarm issues.

The system includes a "DISK" status indicator in the quick menu, which displays updated hard disk information. This is crucial for monitoring storage health and capacity. If disks are set to overwrite, "OW" will be displayed, indicating that older footage will be automatically deleted to make space for new recordings. This helps manage storage efficiently without manual intervention.

For security, the DVR prompts users to change the default password ("ADMIN" / "1234") upon first login. This is a critical maintenance step to prevent unauthorized access. The user management section within the system setup allows administrators to create and manage user accounts, assign different access levels, and enforce strong password policies.

The Network Status menu provides detailed information about the DVR's network connection, including IP address, gateway, subnet mask, and DNS servers. This information is vital for troubleshooting network connectivity issues and ensuring the DVR can communicate effectively with other devices and the internet.

When using Video Analytics, the system recommends performing calibration to increase accuracy. This maintenance step ensures that the VA rules are applied effectively and minimize false alarms or missed events.

The archiving feature, while primarily for data retention, also serves as a maintenance tool. By allowing users to reserve important data on the internal hard disk or export it to external storage, it helps manage the DVR's storage capacity. After exporting reserved data, users are recommended to delete the reserved item from the internal disk to free up recording space, which is a good practice for maintaining optimal system performance.

Overall, the VXH5AHD DVR is designed to be a reliable and manageable surveillance system, offering a blend of advanced features and user-friendly controls to meet diverse security requirements.
