Overview

The CONTEC DELTA II is a floor grinder designed for grinding horizontal, dry surfaces such as concrete, asphalt, and steel, with or without coatings. It is intended for professional use and can be operated outdoors only in dry weather conditions. The machine is designed to be used with CONTEC® grinding tools for optimal performance and compatibility.

Function Description

The DELTA II operates by rotating grinding discs against the floor surface to remove material or coatings. It features a motor that drives the grinding discs, and a lifting device to raise and lower the tools from the floor. The machine is equipped with a dust guard, which is essential for operation, and should be connected to a suitable dust collector to manage the large volumes of dust produced during grinding. The motor's rotation direction is critical for proper operation and is indicated by an arrow on the motor fan. If the motor spins in the wrong direction, the power supply phases must be swapped to prevent damage to the machine.

Usage Features

The DELTA II is designed for ease of use and adaptability to different grinding tasks. Before operation, the grinder's tools must be lifted from the floor using the integrated lifting device to prevent damage upon startup. The machine is activated via a Star-Delta-Switch and a motor switch, allowing for a controlled startup sequence. The operator must ensure the motor reaches full speed before slowly lowering the grinding tools onto the floor.

The machine's design allows for adjustments to optimize grinding performance. The lifting device's height can be adjusted to accommodate tool wear and different grinding depths. This adjustment is made by turning a screw located under the motor, which controls the distance between the screw and the floor when the tools are engaged.

The rear wheel wing is also adjustable, offering both fine and standard height settings for the grinding discs. This adjustment, controlled by a hand wheel on the spindle, helps prevent uneven wear on the discs by allowing lengthways height setting. Furthermore, the load on the grinding discs and tools can be regulated by shifting the rear wheel axis. Moving the axis to a more forward position reduces the load, while a rearward position maximizes it, allowing operators to adapt to different floor types and tool requirements.

For dust management, a hose connects the DELTA II to a dust collector. It is crucial that this hose is free of holes and completely airtight to maintain effective dust extraction and prevent a decrease in performance.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is essential for the safe and efficient operation of the DELTA II. Operators are advised to check power cables regularly for damage and to treat all electrical parts with extreme care. After any maintenance or adjustment, all safety guards must be refitted before operating the machine.

Changing tools is a key maintenance task. Before any tool change, the motor must be brought to a complete standstill, and the machine disconnected from the power supply. Tools can become hot after use, so caution is advised. To change tools, the machine is tilted onto its back wheels and rested on a bar underneath the control panel. The segment plates, secured by Allen screws to the tool brackets, can then be loosened and removed. Before fixing new tools, the grinding tools should be checked for wear or damage.

Belt tension is another adjustable maintenance feature. The belt tension can be adjusted by loosening the four fixing screws of the motor, removing the front belt cover and the cover behind the spindle, and then turning an M10 Nut on the rear side of the belt tensioner. The tooth belt should have a specific amount of play (half a centimeter forwards and backwards) halfway between the pulley and the motor shaft.

The machine should always be stored in a warm, dry place when not in use to prevent damage. Operators are also reminded to ensure the floor is brushed clean before grinding to prevent loose material from collecting in the tools or being thrown out, and to identify anchor screws or bolts that could cause damage to the machine if struck.
