- Standby Mode: The machine automatically enters standby mode after 30 minutes of inactivity.
- Safety: The appliance must be plugged into an earthed socket and positioned so the plug is accessible. The power cord should not dangle over the edge of units. Hot liquid or steam is emitted during operation and descaling, so caution is advised. The filter holder and steam nozzle surfaces become hot during use.
Maintenance Features:
Regular cleaning and descaling are essential to maximize the efficiency and lifespan of the espresso machine.
- Cleaning:
- Switch off and unplug the machine, allowing it to cool completely.
- Wash loose parts (filter holder, filter, metal steam nozzle cover, cup shelf, and drip tray) in hot water with washing-up liquid. Rinse and dry thoroughly. These parts are not suitable for dishwashers.
- Rinse the water tank with clean water.
- Wipe external surfaces with a soft damp cloth and dry with a soft dry cloth. Do not use detergents or abrasives, and never immerse the machine in water.
- Descaling:
- Use a proprietary descaler suitable for espresso machines, diluted according to package instructions.
- Fill the water tank to the MAX level with the descaler solution.
- Plug in, ensure all buttons are in the off position, and fit an empty filter and filter holder.
- Switch on the machine and wait for the green temperature indicator to illuminate.
- Place a jug under the brewing nozzles and press the coffee button to allow approximately 2 espresso cups (200ml approx.) of the descaler solution to flow through.
- Press the coffee button again to stop the flow.
- Move the jug under the steam nozzle with the tip below the liquid surface.
- Press the steam button and, once the orange indicator illuminates, allow steam to flow for about a minute.
- Press the steam button again to turn off the function.
- Switch off the espresso maker and let the descaler solution sit in the machine for 15 minutes.
- Restart the machine and repeat steps 3-7 four more times.
- Discard any remaining descaling solution, rinse the water tank thoroughly with clean water, and refill to the max line.
- Repeat steps 2-7 three more times with clean water to thoroughly flush the pipework.
- Drip Tray: Empty the drip tray regularly, especially when the float becomes visible.
Troubleshooting:
The manual includes a troubleshooting section to address common issues:
- Espresso leaking from filter holder: Check if the filter holder is inserted correctly and in the 'lock' position. Ensure coffee powder is cleaned off the edge of the filter holder.
- Espresso does not come out: Check water level in the tank, if coffee is in the filter, or if the filter is clogged due to fine or tightly packed coffee grounds.
- Indicators not illuminating: Check if the temperature gauge has reached the warm (red) zone and if the steam button is in the correct position (pressed for steam, unpressed for coffee).
- Steam does not come out: Check water level, if the steam nozzle is clogged, or if the steam temperature indicator is not lit.
- Insufficient froth: Check water level, steam nozzle position in milk (move up and down when frothing), and use whole or semi-skimmed milk.
