Do you have a question about the Cool Energy diverTech and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Cool Energy diverTech Solar Energy Diverter is a device designed to harvest surplus solar energy that would otherwise be exported to the grid and divert it to heating elements within a property. It monitors the whole-house electricity supply and, upon detecting export, begins to divert electricity in 100W increments, up to a maximum of 3600W. The system can connect and sequentially heat two elements, with Element 1 always taking priority. The device also features a built-in display that provides real-time data on unit status and total energy saved.

Function Description:

The primary function of the diverTech is to maximize the self-consumption of solar PV generated energy. When the PV array generates more power than the property is consuming, the diverTech uses a CT clamp to detect this surplus export energy. It then directs this energy to connected heating elements, such as immersion heaters or towel radiator elements. The heating elements should always have their own independent thermostat controls. The diverTech automatically detects when a heating element reaches its set temperature and switches off. If a second element is connected, it will then begin to heat the second element. Every 20 minutes, the diverTech re-checks the first element's demand for heat, prioritizing it over the second element. The device is designed to automatically adjust to changes in household consumption, ensuring that only surplus energy is diverted. In the event of a power cut, the diverTech will automatically restart and retain all settings and saved data.

Usage Features:

The diverTech features a user-friendly interface with a display and three buttons: "Display," "Up," and "Down," and a "Boost" button.

  • Display Button: Used to scroll through past and present savings data, as well as real-time information.
  • Up/Down Buttons: Used to scroll through timing settings.
  • Boost Button: Allows for manual boosting of heater outputs.

Displayed Information:

The display provides various information:

  • "Heating by solar xxx kW": Shows real-time energy being diverted.
  • "Water tank hot": Indicates when all elements are satisfied.
  • "Water heating off": Displays when there is no spare export energy to divert.
  • "Saving Today": Shows the energy diverted today.
  • "Saving Yesterday": Shows the energy diverted yesterday.
  • "7 Day Savings": Shows energy diverted over the past 7 days.
  • "Total Savings": Shows total energy diverted for all time.
  • "Time HH:MM": Displays the current time in 24-hour format.

Timing Operation:

The diverTech allows users to set up to three manual boost time periods. During these periods, the maximum output will be sent to the heater outputs, even if there isn't enough export power. Boost times are set using the "Up" and "Down" buttons. Pressing "Up" enters the setting page, and subsequent "Up" presses move to the next time period. The "Down" key selects the time to be adjusted and confirms the selection. Setting a boost time to 00:00 disables it.

Wireless CT Sender Pairing:

To pair the wireless CT sender with the diverTech unit:

  1. Ensure the sender unit has 2 x AA batteries installed.
  2. On the diverTech unit, press "Display" + "Down" buttons together for 1 second until "Pairing" is shown on the screen.
  3. On the sender unit, hold the middle button for 3 seconds to initiate connection.
  4. "Pairing Success" will be displayed upon successful pairing.
  5. If "Pairing Failed" is displayed, recheck and repeat the process.

Warning Icons:

The device displays warning icons for specific issues:

  • "Sender Battery Low": Indicates low batteries in the Wireless CT Sender, prompting replacement.
  • "Lost Signal to Sender": Suggests potential issues such as flat batteries in the Wireless CT Sender, the sender being too far away, signal obstruction, or interference.
  • "Overload": Detected when power draw exceeds 3.68kW, requiring a check of element sizing and grid voltage.

Maintenance Features:

  • Reset Data (Software): Pressing "Display" + "Boost" together clears all software data.
  • Reset Button (Hardware): Located under the wiring cover, this button clears all hardware data.
