Overview

This document describes the Coolaroo Exterior Blind, an easy-release assembly and operating instruction manual. The blind is designed to provide shade, privacy, and protection from the elements, suitable for both home and garden use. It is backed by Gale Pacific Limited, a company with long-standing expertise in commercial-grade fabrics.

The Coolaroo Exterior Blind is a versatile shading solution that can be installed either inside (top mount) or outside (face mount) a window opening. Its design focuses on ease of use and durability, offering optimal protection from harsh sun conditions. The blind features a retractable mechanism, allowing users to adjust its height and tension for desired shade and wind resistance.

Function Description

The primary function of the Coolaroo Exterior Blind is to provide adjustable shade and privacy for outdoor spaces. It is designed to be easily raised and lowered, allowing users to control the amount of sun exposure and maintain privacy as needed. The blind also offers protection from various elements, contributing to a more comfortable outdoor environment. Its retractable nature means it can be neatly stored away when not in use, preserving its condition and aesthetic.

Usage Features

The Coolaroo Exterior Blind is designed for straightforward assembly and operation. The installation process involves spacing quick mount brackets evenly along the blind's length, marking their positions, and attaching them to the installation surface. For top mount installations, the bracket tabs should face forwards, while for face mount installations, they should face downwards. A clearance of at least 5cm (2") between the bracket and the wall or ceiling is recommended to allow for easy fitting and removal of the pelmet. Timber screws are provided for attachment, with wall plugs recommended for masonry surfaces. It's crucial to install the brackets correctly, as upside-down or backward installation will prevent the pelmet from locking.

Once the brackets are in place, the pelmet is fitted by locating its hooks into the channel on the pelmet and then pushing it firmly onto the brackets until all three latches snap securely. The channels on top of the pelmet are used for top (inside) mount installations, and the channels on the side are used for face (outside) mount installations.

For securing the blind in mild to moderate wind conditions, bungee tie-downs are provided. These are threaded through the end cap ring and back through themselves to form a lark's head knot. Receivers are installed approximately 13cm (5") below where the blind will stop, using timber screws or wall plugs for masonry. The bungee is then attached to the receiver when the blind is in the down position.

Operating the blind is simple. To lower it, hold the center of the bottom rail and pull it down to the desired height. To raise it, pull the blind down slightly, then release it, allowing it to retract into the pelmet. A telescopic wand is included for blinds that cannot be reached by hand; it extends to its full length and hooks into either end cap to assist in lowering the blind.

The retraction speed (tension) of the blind can be adjusted. To increase the speed, turn the spring adjuster counter-clockwise 1-2 rotations using a screwdriver. To decrease the speed, turn the spring adjuster clockwise 1-2 rotations.

The stop position of the blind when retracted can also be adjusted. To lower the top position, turn the stop adjuster counter-clockwise using a screwdriver. To raise the top position, turn the stop adjuster clockwise.

Maintenance Features

The Coolaroo Exterior Blind is designed for durability, but proper care and maintenance are essential to ensure its longevity and to uphold the product's 2-year warranty. The blind is made from high-quality materials, and with proper care, it will provide years of shade, privacy, and protection.

For cleaning, simply rinse the shade with water. For more thorough cleaning, scrub with mild soap or any non-abrasive cleaner, then rinse and allow to dry completely. It is important not to store the shade wet. In damp environments, the blind should be rolled down frequently to air dry to prevent mildew or other moisture-related issues.

To prevent damage, the exterior blind should be retracted when not in use or before strong storms. This protects the fabric and mechanism from harsh weather conditions.

It is crucial to avoid the use of solvents or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the fabric and will void the warranty. Similarly, bleach or chlorine should not be used for cleaning the blind.

The product comes with a 2-year warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship from the date of purchase. To register the product for warranty, customers can visit coolaroo.com.au. In case of a fault covered by warranty, customers should contact Coolaroo Customer Service with proof of purchase and details of the alleged defect. The customer is responsible for the cost of transport and insurance of the product to and from Gale or its authorized agent for warranty claims.

The warranty does not cover alterations or modifications by unauthorized personnel, defects within acceptable industry variances, inability to establish fault, failure to install and use according to instructions, customization requests, or exposure to abnormal conditions (environment, temperature, water, fire, humidity, pressure, stress). Normal wear and tear, water or sun damage, or damage caused by placing other equipment or furniture in close proximity are also not covered.
