Safety interlock System
Thesafetyinterlocksystemisdesignedforsafeoperationof thetractor.If this
systemshouldevermalfunction,donotoperatethetractor,immediatelycontact
1-800-4-MY-HOMEto havethesystemserviced.
Thesafetyinterlocksystempreventstheenginefromstartingunless
theparkingbrakeisengagedandthe PTO(BladeEngage)leverisin the
disengaged(OFF)position.
Thesafetyinterlocksystemwillautomaticallyshutoffthe engineif the
operatorleavestheseatbeforeengagingtheparkingbrake.
Thesafetyinterlocksystemwillautomaticallyshutofftheengineif the
operatorleavesthetractor'sseatwith thePTO(BladeEngage)leverengaged,
regardlessof whethertheparkingbrakeisengaged.
Engagingthe ParkingBrake
Toengage the parking brake:
1. Fullydepressthe parkingparkingbrakepedalandholdit downwith your
foot.
2. Movetheparkingbrakeleverallthewaydownandintotheparkingbrake
(ON)position.
3. Releasetheparkingparkingbrakepedalto allowtheparkingbraketo
engage.
Torelease the parkingbrake:
1. Depressthe parkingparkingbrakepedalandmovetheparkingbrakelever
outof theparkingbrake(ON)positionandintotheOFFposition.
Setting the CuttingHeight
1. Selecttheheightpositionof thecuttingdeckbyplacingthedecklift leverin
anyof thesixdifferentcuttingheightnotchesontheright sideofthefender.
2. Adjustthedeckwheelssothattheyarebetween1g-inchand1/2-inchabove
thegroundwhenthetractorisonasmooth,flat surfacesuchasa driveway.
3. Adjustthedeckwheelsbyremovingtheflangelocknutandshoulderbolt
thatsecureseachwheelandmovingit intooneoftheholesthat allows
thewheelsto bebetween1g-inchand1/2-inchabovethegroundwhenthe
tractorisonasmooth,flat surfacesuchasa driveway.SeeFigure9.

Keephandsandfeetawayfromthedischargeopeningof thecuttingdeck.
NOTE:Thedeckwheelsareananti-scalpfeatureofthedeckandarenotdesigned
tosupporttheweightofthecuttingdeck.Referto LevelingintheServiceand
Maintenancesectionof thismanualformoredetailedinstructionsregardingvarious
deckadjustments.
Starting the Engine
Donotoperatethetractorif theinterlocksystemis malfunctioning.Thissystem
wasdesignedforyoursafetyandprotection.
NOTE:RefertotheGasolineandOilfill-up instructionsearlierinthissection.
1. Insertthetractorkeyintotheignitionswitch.
2. PlacethePTO(BladeEngage)leverinthedisengaged(OFF)position.
3. Engagethetractor'sparkingbrake.
4. Activatethechokecontrolbymovingthethrottle/chokeleverallthewayup
intothechokeposition.
5. Turntheignitionkeyclockwiseto theSTARTposition.Aftertheenginestarts,
releasethekey.It will returntotheON(orNormalMowing)position.See
Figure10.
DoNOTholdthekeyintheSTARTpositionforlongerthantensecondsatatime.
Doingsomaycausedamagetoyourengine'selectricstarter.
6. Aftertheenginestarts,deactivatethechokecontrolandplacethethrottle
controlinthe FASTposition.
NOTE:DoNOTleavethechokecontrolonwhileoperatingthetractor.Doingsowill
resultina"rich"fuelmixtureandcausetheenginetorun poorly.
