Muffler
Temperatureof mufflerandnearbyengineareasmayexceed150°F
(65°0).Avoidcontactwiththeseareas.
• inspectmufflerperiodically,and replaceif necessary.Replace-
mentpartsfor the mufflermustbethe sameand installedin the
samepositionasthe originalparts.
Clean Engine
• Dailyor beforeeveryuse,cleangrass,chaff oraccumulated
debrisfromengine.Keeplinkage,spring,andcontrolsclean.
Keepareaaroundandbehindmufflerfreeof any combustible
debris.
Keepingenginecleanallowsair movementaroundengine.
• Enginepartsshouldbe keptcleanto reducethe riskofoverheat-
ingandignitionof accumulateddebris.
Donotuse waterto cleanengineparts.Watercouldcontaminatefuel
system.Usea brushordrycloth.
Carburetor Adjustment
• Thecarburetoron thisengineisnot adjustable.
LUBRICATION
Beforelubricating,repairing,or inspecting,alwaysdisengagePTO
(BladeEngageLever),moveshift leverinto neutralposition,set
parkingbrake,stopengineandremovekeyto preventunintended
starting.
Pivot Points & Linkage
Lubricateallthepivotpointsonthedrivesystem,parkingbrakeandlift
linkageat leastonce a seasonwithlightoil.
Rear Wheels
Therearwheelsshouldberemovedfromtheaxlesoncea season.
Lubricatetheaxlesandtherimswellwithan all-purposegreasebefore
re-installingthem.
Front Axles
Eachend of thetractor'sfrontpivotbar maybeequippedwitha grease
fitting.Lubricatewitha greasegunafterevery25hoursoftractor
operation.
Battery
Thebatteryis sealedandis maintenance-free.Acidlevelscannotbe
checked.
Alwayskeepthe batterycablesandterminalscleanandfree of
corrosivebuild-up.
Aftercleaningthe batteryandterminals,applya lightcoatof
petroleumjellyorgreasetobothterminals.
Alwayskeepthe rubberbootpositionedoverthepositiveterminal
to preventshorting.
iMPORTANT:if removingthebatteryforany reason,disconnectthe
NEGATIVE(Black)wirefromitsterminalfirst,followedby the POSI-
TIVE(Red)wire.Whenre-installingthe battery,alwaysconnectthe
POSITIVE(Red)wire toits terminalfirst,followedbythe NEGATIVE
(Black)wire.Becertainthatthewiresareconnectedto the correct
terminals;reversingthemcouldchangethe polarityandresultin
damageto yourengine'salternatingsystem.
Cleaning Battery
Cleanthe batteryby removingitfromthetractorandwashingwith
a bakingsodaandwatersolution.Ifnecessary,scrapethe battery
terminalswitha wirebrushto removedeposits.Coatterminalsand
exposedwiringwithgreaseor petroleumjellyto preventcorrosion.

Somecommoncausesfor batteryfailureare:

Overcharging
Freezing
Undercharging
Corrodedconnections
Thesefailuresare NOTcoveredbyyourtractor'swarranty.
