Do you have a question about the Crane EE-5068 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Crane Tower Air Purifier, model EE-5068, is designed to enhance indoor air quality by filtering out various airborne particles and reducing germs. This device is intended for household use and operates by drawing in dirty air, passing it through a multi-level filtration system, and then releasing cleaner air.

Function Description

The air purifier employs a three-level filtration system to ensure comprehensive air purification:

  1. Washable Particle Filter (Level 1): This initial filter is designed to capture larger particles such as dust, hair, and lint. Its primary purpose is to extend the lifespan of the subsequent HEPA filter by preventing larger debris from reaching it. Regular cleaning of this filter is crucial for maintaining the overall efficiency of the air purifier.

  2. HEPA Filter (Level 2): Standing for High Efficiency Particulate Air, the true HEPA filter is the core of the purification system. It is engineered to remove at least 99.97% of all particles as small as 0.3 microns. This includes microscopic airborne particles like pollen, smoke, animal dander, mold spores, and fine dust, which are effectively trapped within the filter.

  3. UV Bulb (Level 3): An ultraviolet (UV) bulb is integrated into the system to help reduce germs that might grow within the HEPA filter. The presence of a blue UV Indicator Light signifies that the UV Bulb is active, except when the unit is operating in Sleep Mode.

Usage Features

The Crane Tower Air Purifier offers several user-friendly features controlled via its top-mounted control panel:

  • Power On/Off: A dedicated Power Button allows users to easily turn the unit on or off.
  • Fan Speed Control: The Fan Speed Button enables selection of three fan speeds: Low, Medium, and High. Pressing the button cycles through these settings.
  • UV Bulb and Sleep Mode: The Sleep/UV Button provides control over both the UV bulb and the Sleep Mode. Users can turn the UV bulb on or off, and activate or deactivate Sleep Mode. In Sleep Mode, indicator lights will go off after blinking, and the fan setting automatically defaults to Low for quieter operation. Any button press on the control panel will deactivate Sleep Mode. It's important to note that if the unit is unplugged, Sleep Mode needs to be reset.
  • Timer Function: The Timer Button allows users to set the purifier to operate for specific intervals: 2 hours, 4 hours, or 8 hours. The unit will automatically shut off once the scheduled operating time has elapsed. To return to continuous operation, the button should be pressed until no timer indicator lights are illuminated.

For optimal performance and safety, the purifier should be placed on a firm, level, and flat surface, at least three feet away from walls or furniture to ensure proper airflow. It should not be placed near heat sources, in greasy or humid environments, or in areas with flammable vapors. The unit is equipped with a polarized plug as a safety feature to reduce the risk of electrical shock.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is essential for the safe and effective use and longevity of the Crane Tower Air Purifier.

  • Filter Replacement Indication: The unit features a Filter Reset light that blinks continuously when the HEPA filter needs to be replaced. After replacing the filter, the POWER button must be held down for 5 seconds to reset the system.
  • HEPA Filter Replacement: The HEPA filter typically requires replacement every 3-6 months, depending on air quality and usage. The replacement process involves unplugging the unit, turning it upside down, unscrewing the base cover, unwrapping the washable particle filter from the old HEPA filter, discarding the old HEPA filter (which should not be washed), wrapping the washable particle filter on the new HEPA filter, inserting the filters, screwing the base cover back on, and then resetting the system. Replacement HEPA filters (model #HS-1946) can be purchased online.
  • Washable Particle Filter Cleaning: This filter should be gently removed from the HEPA filter and rinsed by hand with warm water. It is crucial NOT to place it in a dishwasher or use hard solvents or detergents. The particle filter MUST be thoroughly dry before being rewrapped around the HEPA filter.
  • HEPA Filter Cleaning: The HEPA filter itself should be cleaned once a month using a vacuum cleaner.
  • UV Bulb Replacement: The UV bulb is designed for approximately one year of continuous operation, after which its effectiveness significantly diminishes. It should be replaced after a year or if the blue UV bulb does not illuminate when the UV switch is on. The replacement procedure involves unplugging the unit, turning it upside down, removing the base and filter, loosening a green screw, gently disconnecting wire connectors, carefully sliding the old UV bulb out, sliding the new bulb in (without forcing), reconnecting the wire connectors, tightening the green screw, and reattaching the filter and base cover. Users are warned NEVER to look directly at the illuminated UV bulb, touch the glass part of the bulb with bare hands (gloves or handling by the metal area is recommended), or operate the unit with a damaged or broken UV bulb. Proper disposal of broken bulbs is emphasized, advising against vacuuming or handling with bare hands.
  • Air Purifier Cleaning: The exterior of the unit can be cleaned with a lightly damp cloth after unplugging. Water should not enter the intake and outlet grills. Harsh chemicals like gasoline, polish, or other solvents should never be used. The intake and outlet grills can be cleaned of dust with a small soft brush. For internal cleaning, filters should be removed, and only a dry, soft cloth should be used to wipe down the inside.
  • Storage: When storing the purifier, it should be kept in a dry location, free from heavy items on top that could cause damage. The cord should be stored in a clean, dry place away from metal objects. The plug should always be checked before use to ensure no metal items have become attached.

The manual also includes important safety instructions, emphasizing the need to read and save all instructions to ensure safe and effective use, and warning against potential electric shock, fire, or serious personal injury if instructions are not followed. It highlights that the air purifier is not a toy and should be operated by adults, with children supervised.
