Overview

The Crosley CR8009B-DU Discovery Turntable is a portable record player designed for playing vinyl records and streaming audio via Bluetooth. It features a classic suitcase-style design, making it easy to transport and set up.

Function Description:

The primary function of this device is to play vinyl records at multiple speeds. It also includes an Aux In jack for connecting external audio devices and Bluetooth connectivity for both input (streaming music to the turntable's speakers) and output (transmitting audio from the turntable to external Bluetooth headphones or speakers).

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power: AC power adaptor, DC output 5 V 1 A
  • Power Consumption: 9 W
  • Speaker: 4Ω, 3W x 2
  • Turntable Speed: 33⅓, 45, 78 RPM
  • Replacement Needle: Crosley NP6
  • Bluetooth Version: 5.1

Usage Features:

Initial Setup:

  1. Place the unit on a flat and level surface, ensuring it is stable and free from vibration.
  2. Remove the tie-wrap holding the tonearm.
  3. Connect the AC adaptor to the Power Jack. Do not plug the adaptor into a power outlet until all assembly is complete and connections are correct. Always turn off the power when connecting or disconnecting.

Turntable Operation:

  1. Rotate the On/Off Volume Knob to power on the unit.
  2. Set the Function Switch to the PHONO position (the Function Indicator will be red).
  3. Set the Speed Switch to the appropriate speed for your record (33⅓, 45, or 78 RPM). Use the included 45 RPM Adapter for 45 RPM records if necessary.
  4. Place the record on the turntable platter.
  5. Remove the stylus protector from the stylus assembly. To prevent damage, keep the stylus guard in place when moving or cleaning the turntable.
  6. Release the tonearm Hold Down Clip. Remember to lock it back when the turntable is not in use.
  7. Use the Tonearm Lever to lift the tonearm.
  8. Gently move the tonearm over the desired starting point on the record.
  9. Set the Tonearm Lever back to the down position; the tonearm will slowly descend onto the record and begin playback.
  10. Once the record finishes playing, use the Tonearm Lever to raise the tonearm and return it to the Tonearm Rest. Release the lever to let the tonearm sit back at its rest. To pause playback, repeat these steps.
  11. Lock the Tonearm Clip to secure the tonearm when not in use.

Platter Auto-stop:

If the Auto-stop Switch is set to ON, the platter will automatically stop spinning when the record reaches the end. If the turntable stops prematurely, set the switch to OFF to resolve the issue.

Pitch Control:

The Pitch Control Knob allows for approximately 10% adjustment of the turntable speed. Turn the knob clockwise to increase speed and counter-clockwise to decrease it.

Bluetooth Input Operation (Streaming to Turntable):

  1. Turn the Function Switch to Bluetooth mode (the function indicator will flash blue, and you'll hear an activation sound).
  2. Enable Bluetooth on your audio device and search for "CROSLEY CR8009B" to pair.
  3. Once successfully paired, you will hear a short confirmation sound.
  4. Play and stream music from your device to the turntable's speakers.

Bluetooth Output Operation (Streaming from Turntable):

  1. Place the Bluetooth receiving device (headphones, speakers) close to the turntable.
  2. Set the turntable's function switch to the middle position for Bluetooth output (the function indicator will slowly flash blue).
  3. Set your receiving device to pairing mode.
  4. The turntable will automatically connect to your audio device.
  5. Once paired, the function indicator will turn solid blue. If pairing fails, ensure your audio device is not already paired/connected to another device.

Aux Input Connection:

Connect a 3.5mm auxiliary cable between your audio device and the Aux In Jack on the turntable to play music through its speakers. The Function Indicator will be purple. Note that the Aux In connection overrides turntable and Bluetooth functions; unplug the cable to resume other functions.

Stereo System Connection (RCA Jacks):

The RCA Jacks provide analog line-level signals. Connect the Red plug to the Right channel and the White plug to the Left channel of active/powered speakers or your stereo system's appropriate input. These jacks are not designed for passive/unpowered speakers, and connecting them to such speakers will result in very low volume.

Power Saving Feature:

To save power, some models comply with ERP energy-saving standards. If there is no audio input for 20 minutes, the unit will automatically power off. To resume playing, turn the power off and then on again.

Troubleshooting:

  • No power: Check power adaptor connection and power outlet.
  • Power on, platter not turning: Check if the drive belt has slipped off or if an aux in cable is plugged into the aux in jack.
  • Platter spinning, no sound/low sound: Check if the stylus protector is still on, if the tonearm is lifted by the lever, or if headphones are plugged in.

Maintenance Features:

Needle Replacement:

  • Removing Needle: Gently pull down the front edge of the needle, then pull it forward and out.
  • Installing Needle: Position the new needle with its tip facing down, align the back with the cartridge, insert the front end at a downward angle, and gently lift the front upward until it snaps into place.

Turntable Maintenance:

  • Avoid touching the stylus tip with fingers and bumping it against the mat or record edge.
  • Clean the stylus frequently with a soft brush, moving from back to front only.
  • Clean records with a record cleaning brush and solution to remove dust or grease.
  • Clean the turntable lid and cabinet with a slightly damped microfiber cloth. Do not use cleansers containing alcohol, benzene, or other harsh chemicals, as they can damage the paint and finish.
  • Crosley offers various cleaning accessories; check their website for more information.
