Overview

The Daewoo Halogen Air Fryer is a versatile kitchen appliance designed for healthy cooking through rapid air circulation, offering a convenient alternative to traditional frying methods. This 2-in-1 deluxe air fryer boasts a 5-liter capacity, which can be expanded with an included extender ring, making it suitable for preparing a wide range of meals for individuals or families.

Function Description

At its core, the Halogen Air Fryer utilizes halogen heating technology combined with a powerful fan to circulate hot air evenly around the food. This process ensures that food is cooked thoroughly and crisply, often with little to no added oil, resulting in healthier dishes. The appliance is capable of various cooking functions, including roasting, baking, steaming, and frying/roasting, making it a multi-functional tool for diverse culinary needs.

The main cooking unit consists of a removable glass bowl, which sits securely on a base with handles for easy transport. The lid/motor assembly, housing the heating element and fan, rests on top of the glass bowl. This assembly features a timer dial, allowing users to set cooking times from 0 to 60 minutes, and a thermostat dial for temperature control, ranging from 65°C to 250°C. Indicator lights for power (green) and heat (red) provide visual feedback on the appliance's operational status. A safety interlock switch, integrated into the carrying handle, ensures that the appliance only operates when the handle is fully folded down and clicked into place, enhancing user safety.

The air fryer comes with several accessories to facilitate different cooking styles. These include a high rack and a low rack, which allow for cooking at different heights within the bowl, and two mesh baskets, ideal for smaller food items like chips or potatoes, ensuring optimal air circulation. An oil sprayer is also provided, enabling users to lightly coat food with oil for a "deep-fried" effect without excessive oil use. Tongs are included for safely handling hot racks and baskets, and a lid stand offers a convenient place to rest the hot lid during and after cooking. The extender ring, which increases the cooking capacity, can be placed between the glass bowl and the lid/motor assembly when larger quantities of food need to be prepared.

For thawing food, the Halogen Air Fryer can be set to a "thaw" temperature, allowing users to defrost items like meat joints efficiently. The appliance's design promotes even thawing, especially for larger items, which should be turned at least once during the process.

Usage Features

Operating the Halogen Air Fryer is straightforward, with user-friendly controls and safety mechanisms. Before first use, it is crucial to remove all packaging, including the extender ring which is stored around the glass bowl in transit. The bowl and accessories should be washed in hot soapy water, rinsed, and dried thoroughly. The lid/motor assembly, however, should never be immersed in water or any other liquid; it should only be wiped clean with a damp cloth.

To begin cooking, the glass bowl is placed on its insulated base, which should rest on a solid, level, heatproof surface, as the outer surface of the bowl becomes very hot during operation. Food is then arranged on either the high or low rack, or in the mesh baskets, ensuring at least a 1cm gap between food items and from the sides of the bowl to allow for proper air circulation. The lid/motor assembly is then placed securely on top of the bowl, or on the extender ring if additional capacity is needed. The handle must be fully pushed down until the safety interlock switch clicks, enabling the appliance to power on.

The thermostat is set to the desired cooking temperature, and the timer is rotated clockwise to the required cooking duration. The green power indicator and red heat indicator lights will illuminate, signaling that cooking has commenced. The internal lamp will also intermittently turn on and off, along with the green heat indicator, to maintain the set temperature, which is a normal part of its operation.

Pre-heating the air fryer for about 3 minutes at maximum thermostat setting is recommended before adding food to ensure optimal cooking results. For roasting, meat can be placed directly onto the wire rack. For baking, food should be placed in a metal or ceramic baking pan no larger than 12 inches (300mm) in diameter to allow for air circulation. Steaming vegetables can be achieved by wrapping them in foil with a small amount of water and placing the sealed pouch at the bottom of the cooking bowl. When frying/roasting, lightly spraying food with oil using the provided sprayer and turning it regularly helps achieve a crispy texture.

After cooking, the tongs should always be used to remove hot baskets or racks from the bowl, and the lid stand should be utilized to support the hot lid. This minimizes the risk of burns from hot surfaces or escaping steam.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of the Halogen Air Fryer. After each use, it is essential to allow the unit to cool completely before cleaning or storage. The appliance must always be disconnected from the mains by gripping and pulling the plug, not the power cord.

For light cleaning of the glass bowl, a self-cleaning function can be used: approximately 3cm of water and a squirt of mild detergent are added to the bowl. The lid/motor assembly is placed on top, the handle is folded down, and the thermostat is set to "WASH" with the timer set to 10 minutes. The heater and turbofan will warm and stir the water, effectively cleaning the bowl. After this cycle, the plug is removed, the lid is placed on its stand, and the bowl is emptied, rinsed, and dried.

For more thorough cleaning, the glass bowl and accessories (racks, baskets, tongs, oil sprayer, lid stand) should be washed by hand in warm soapy water. It is crucial to remember that the glass cooking bowl is not dishwasher safe. The lid/motor assembly should never be immersed in water or any other liquid; it should only be wiped clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent.

Before storing, ensure the Halogen Air Fryer is unplugged, the timer is in the "OFF" position, and the entire unit has cooled down completely. The power cord should not be wrapped around the appliance during use or storage.

The appliance is designed for domestic, indoor use only and should be kept away from splashes of water or damp conditions. In case of any fault or damage to the supply cord, the unit should not be used and should be referred to a qualified electrician or the supplier for repair, as there are no user-serviceable parts. The instruction manual should be retained for future reference, providing important safeguards and operational guidelines.
