Overview

This document outlines the operation, features, and maintenance of the DAEWOO KOR-864H Microwave Oven. It is designed to provide users with comprehensive instructions for safe and effective use.

The microwave oven is primarily designed for heating, cooking, or drying food. It operates on ISM frequency energy and includes safety precautions to prevent excessive microwave energy exposure. Users are advised not to operate the oven with the door open, tamper with safety interlocks, or place objects between the door and the oven front face. Regular checks for damage to the door, hinges, latches, and seals are crucial for safe operation. Any adjustments or repairs should only be performed by qualified service personnel.

Function Description

The DAEWOO KOR-864H Microwave Oven offers a variety of cooking and defrosting functions. It features a digital display that shows cooking time, power level, indicators, and the present time.

  • Setting the Clock: Upon plugging in, the display flashes ":0". The oven supports both 12-hour and 24-hour clock systems. Users can set the desired time by touching the CLOCK pad and then entering the numbers.
  • Time Defrosting: This function allows users to defrost food for a specified duration. The oven automatically cycles between defrost and stand times. The DEF indicator lights up, and the display counts down the remaining time. Beeps signal when food needs to be turned or rearranged.
  • Weight Defrosting (AUTO DEFROST): This feature simplifies defrosting by automatically determining the defrosting time based on the food's weight. Users select the food type (MEAT, POULTRY, or FISH) and then the weight. The oven then calculates and executes the defrosting cycle. Similar to time defrosting, beeps indicate when food should be turned.
  • Cooking in One Stage: Users can set a specific cooking time and power level. The M/W indicator lights, and the display shows the selected power level and counts down the cooking time. If no power level is selected, the oven cooks at full power.
  • Cooking in Two Stages: This function is ideal for frozen foods, allowing users to program an automatic defrosting stage followed by a cooking stage. The DEF indicator blinks during defrosting, then switches to the M/W indicator for the cooking stage.
  • Kitchen Timer Mode: The timer can be used as a minute timer, to delay the start of cooking, or to set a holding time after cooking. It operates independently of microwave energy.
  • Speedy Cook: This feature allows for quick reheating for 30 seconds at 100% power. Repeatedly touching the SPEEDY COOK pad extends the reheating time in 30-second increments, up to 5 minutes.
  • One Touch Cooking: This function provides pre-programmed settings for common foods like POPCORN, FROZEN PIZZA, BEVERAGE, DINNER PLATE, FRESH VEGETABLE, and FROZEN VEGETABLE. Users touch the corresponding pad once for a standard quantity, or multiple times within 1.5 seconds for larger quantities.
  • Less/More: During one-touch cooking or regular cooking, these pads can be used to adjust the cooking time. "LESS" decreases time in 10-second or 1-minute multiples, while "MORE" increases it.
  • Child Safety Lock: This feature prevents unintended oven operation. It is activated by pressing and holding the STOP/CLEAR pad for 3 seconds, and deactivated by repeating the action.
  • Stopping the Oven: The oven can be stopped during operation by pressing the STOP/CLEAR pad (to pause or clear instructions) or by opening the door (which automatically shuts off microwave energy).

Usage Features

The microwave oven is designed for user convenience and safety.

  • Door Latch and Seal: The door latch ensures the oven is securely closed, and the door seal prevents microwave leakage. Opening the door during operation automatically shuts off the magnetron.
  • Glass Cooking Tray and Roller Guide: A heat-resistant glass tray, supported by a roller guide, must always be in place during operation. Food should not be cooked directly on the tray.
  • Spatter Shield: This component protects the microwave outlet from food splashes.
  • Safety Interlock System: This system prevents the oven from operating when the door is open.
  • Audible Feedback: Each pad touch is acknowledged with a "BEEP" sound.
  • Display Indicators: Various indicators (M/W, DEF, TIMER, LOCK, Ib) provide clear feedback on the oven's current mode and status.
  • Power Levels: The oven offers 10 power levels, from P-HI (100%) down to P-00 (0%), allowing for precise cooking control. Lower power levels are recommended for delicate foods or slow cooking.
  • Utensil Test: A simple test is provided to determine if a utensil is microwave-safe: heat the empty utensil with a cup of water for 1 minute on HI. If the utensil remains cool while the water warms, it is suitable for microwave use.
  • Microwave Utensils: The manual provides guidelines on suitable materials (ovenproof glass, ceramic, china, certain plastics, paper) and unsuitable materials (metal, delicate glassware, recycled paper products, wire twist-ties) for microwave cooking.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of the microwave oven.

  • Cleaning the Oven Interior: After each use, the oven interior should be wiped with a soft, damp cloth. Mild detergent can be used for stubborn grease or spills. Harsh detergents or abrasives are not recommended.
  • Cleaning the Oven Exterior: The outside surface can be cleaned with soap and water, rinsed, and dried with a soft cloth. Care should be taken to prevent water from seeping into ventilation openings.
  • Cleaning the Control Panel: If the control panel becomes wet, it should be cleaned with a soft, dry cloth. Harsh detergents or abrasives should be avoided.
  • Cleaning the Glass Tray: The glass tray can be removed and washed in warm, sudsy water or a dishwasher. It should be allowed to cool before cleaning if hot.
  • Cleaning the Roller Guide and Oven Cavity Floor: These parts should be cleaned regularly to prevent excessive noise. They can be wiped with mild detergent water or window cleaner and dried. The roller guide can also be washed in mild sudsy water.
  • Waveguide Cover: The waveguide cover should be kept clean at all times to prevent overheating, smoke, or fire.

The manual also includes a "BEFORE YOU CALL FOR SERVICE" checklist to help users troubleshoot common issues before contacting service personnel, emphasizing that users should NOT ATTEMPT TO SERVICE THE OVEN YOURSELF!
