Do you have a question about the Daikin GPHM5 SEER2 M Series and is the answer not in the manual?
This document describes the installation, operation, and maintenance of the GPHM5 15.2 SEER2 "M" Series Heat Pump Units (2-4 Ton), which are self-contained packaged units designed for outdoor use only. These units are available in cooling capacities of 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, and 4 nominal tons.
The GPHM5 SEER2 M-Series heat pumps are designed to provide both heating and cooling for residential applications, primarily manufactured or modular homes with existing high-static ductwork. They can also be converted to accommodate plenums for normal or low-static applications. The units operate as a complete refrigerating system, including a compressor, condenser coil, evaporator coil with flowrator, indoor blower, condenser fan, and all necessary internal electrical wiring. For heat pump models, a reversing valve, solenoid, defrost thermostat, and control with loss of charge protection are also included. The system is factory-evacuated, charged, and performance tested.
Cooling Cycle: When in cooling mode, the heat pump operates like a standard air conditioner, extracting heat from the indoor air and expelling it outdoors.
Heating Cycle: In heating mode, the heat pump reverses the refrigerant flow. Hot discharge vapor from the compressor is directed to the indoor coil (which acts as a condenser), where heat is released to the indoor air. The vapor then condenses to liquid, flows through the expansion device to the outdoor coil (acting as an evaporator), where it evaporates by absorbing heat from the outdoor air, and returns to the compressor.
Defrost Control: Since the outdoor coil can accumulate frost in heating mode when temperatures are below freezing, the unit incorporates a defrost control. This control reverses the heat pump to cooling mode, stops the outdoor fan, and energizes supplementary heaters to melt frost accumulation on the outdoor coil. Defrost timing periods (30, 60, or 90 minutes) can be selected.
