This document is an owner's guide for a Dawlance microwave oven, specifically model DW-393 GSS. It provides comprehensive instructions for safe and effective operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the appliance.
The primary function of this device is to heat food and beverages using microwave energy. It also features a grill function and combination cooking modes, allowing for a wider range of cooking possibilities beyond simple reheating. The microwave oven is designed for household use and similar applications, such as in personnel kitchen areas, farms, hotels, motels, and residential places for stay and breakfast. It is not intended for industrial or laboratory use, nor for drying clothes, pillows, shoes, or wet sponges, as these activities may involve risks of injury or fire.
Usage Features:
The microwave oven offers several cooking modes and settings to cater to different needs:
- Clock Setting: Users can set the current time in a 24-hour format. This is a basic utility function that helps keep track of time.
- Microwave Cooking: This is the core function, allowing users to cook or reheat food using microwave energy. The oven provides multiple power levels (P100, P80, P50, P30, P10) to control the intensity of cooking, ranging from 100% to 10% microwave power. Cooking time can be set from 5 seconds up to 95 minutes, with step quantities for adjustment varying based on the total cooking time (e.g., 5 seconds for 0-1 minute, 1 minute for 10-30 minutes).
- Grill or Combi. Cooking: This feature allows for grilling food or using a combination of microwave and grill functions. The combi modes (C-1 and C-2) offer different ratios of microwave to grill power (e.g., C-1: 55% microwave, 45% grill; C-2: 36% microwave, 64% grill). When using the grill function, the oven may sound twice halfway through the cooking time, indicating that the food should be turned over for better grilling results. If no action is taken, the oven will continue cooking.
- Quick Start: For convenience, the oven can be started quickly at 100% microwave power. Each additional press of the "Start/+30Sec./Confirm" button increases the cooking time by 30 seconds, up to 95 minutes. In waiting state, users can also set cooking time with 100% microwave power by using the "A" or "V" buttons.
- Defrost by Weight: This function allows users to defrost food based on its weight, ranging from 100g to 2000g. The oven automatically calculates the defrosting time.
- Defrost by Time: Alternatively, users can set a specific defrosting time, up to a maximum of 95 minutes. The power level for this mode is fixed at P30 and cannot be adjusted.
- Auto Menu: The oven includes pre-programmed settings for common food items such as pizza, meat, vegetables, pasta, potato, fish, beverages, and popcorn. Users select the food type and its weight, and the oven automatically sets the appropriate cooking parameters.
- Multi-Section Cooking: This advanced feature allows for sequential cooking with different modes, such as defrosting followed by microwave cooking. The oven will transition between sections automatically, with audible signals indicating the start of each new section.
- Inquiring Function: During microwave, grill, or combination cooking, users can check the current power level or the remaining time by pressing specific buttons.
- Kitchen Timer: A separate timer function is available, allowing users to set a countdown for up to 95 minutes, independent of cooking operations.
- Lock-Out Function for Children: For safety, the oven includes a child lock feature that prevents accidental operation. It can be activated or deactivated by pressing and holding the "Stop/Clear" button for 3 seconds.
Maintenance Features:
Proper maintenance is crucial for the longevity and safe operation of the microwave oven. The manual emphasizes the following:
- Regular Cleaning: The oven should be cleaned regularly, and any food deposits should be removed. The inside of the oven should be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth, and accessories should be cleaned with soapy water. The door frame, seal, and neighboring parts require careful cleaning with a damp cloth when dirty. Failure to maintain cleanliness can degrade the surface, affect the appliance's lifespan, and potentially lead to hazardous situations.
- Utensil Suitability: Users are instructed to only use utensils suitable for microwave ovens and to avoid materials that can cause arcing, fire, or contamination, such as aluminum trays, metal-trimmed dinnerware, metal twist-ties, paper bags, plastic foam, and wood. A utensil test procedure is provided to help users determine if a non-metallic utensil is safe for microwave cooking.
- Turntable Care: The glass tray and turntable ring assembly must always be used during cooking and should never be restricted or placed upside down. If these components crack or break, users should contact an authorized service center.
- Safety Precautions: The manual outlines numerous safety instructions to prevent fire, electric shock, injury, or exposure to excessive microwave energy. These include warnings against heating sealed containers, overcooking food, storing items inside the oven cavity, and using corrosive chemicals. It also advises against operating the oven with a damaged door or seals and emphasizes that only competent persons should remove covers that protect against microwave energy. Children should only use the oven under adult supervision and with adequate instructions.
- Grounding Installation: The appliance must be properly grounded to reduce the risk of electric shock. Users are advised to consult a qualified electrician if grounding instructions are unclear or if an extension cord is needed, ensuring it is a 3-wire grounding type.
- Placement: The oven should be placed on a level surface with adequate clearance for ventilation, away from heat sources, radios, and TVs to prevent interference. The rear surface must be placed against a wall, and the legs should not be removed.
The manual also includes a troubleshooting section to help users address common issues like the oven not starting, not heating, or the turntable making noise, providing possible causes and remedies.
