    • 50 W (2 core)
  • Typical power consumption (overall): TBD.

The VEP1400 ships with one external AC/DC power supply and one AC power cable (a US AC power cable is included for powering up an AC power supply; other power cables must be ordered separately). The platform is powered up when the power cable is connected between the platform and the power source.

Usage Features:

  • Installation Flexibility: The VEP1400 can be installed on a desktop, wall-mounted, or rack-mounted, providing adaptability to different physical environments. It is recommended to install the platform into a rack or cabinet before installing any optional components.
  • Environmental Considerations: The device requires a dry, clean, well-ventilated, and temperature-controlled room, away from heat sources and severe electromagnetic noise. Proper ventilation is crucial, requiring a minimum of 5 inches (12.7 cm) of clearance around the exhaust vents in an equipment rack or cabinet.
  • Power-up Sequence: For configurations with a fan module, the fans will immediately run at high speed upon power-up and then slow down as the platform boots up. It is critical not to power up the platform if a fan module is not installed.
  • Optical Transceivers: The equipment contains optical transceivers that comply with Class 1 laser radiation limits. Users are warned to avoid exposure to laser radiation and not to stare into open apertures when no cable is connected, as visible and invisible laser radiation may be emitted.
  • System Grounding: Dell recommends grounding the system for optimal performance and safety.

Maintenance Features:

  • ESD Precautions: Electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage can occur if components are mishandled. Always wear an ESD-preventive wrist or heel ground strap when handling the platform and its accessories. After removing original packaging, place the VEP1400 and its components on an antistatic surface.
  • Power Disconnection for Servicing: Always disconnect all power cables before servicing the power supply slots, as the platform has multiple power cables. The power supply cable serves as the main disconnect device, and it should be located/installed near the equipment and be easily accessible.
  • Battery Replacement: The device contains a lithium battery. There is a danger of explosion if the battery is incorrectly replaced. Replace only with the same or equivalent type of battery and dispose of batteries according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Component Storage: If the VEP1400 and its components are not installed immediately, they must be stored properly. Storage should be in a dry, dust-free environment, away from direct sunlight, heat, and air conditioning ducts, with a constant temperature within the specified storage range.
  • Documentation and Support: Dell provides comprehensive support resources, including an installation guide, release notes, and a support site (www.dell.com/support) for the most recent documentation, drivers, downloads, and technical assistance. Users can find product-specific information using the 7-character service tag or 11-digit express service code. Community blogs and forums are also available for additional support.
  • Qualified Personnel: Only trained and qualified personnel should install this equipment. It is essential to read the guide before installation and power-up.
