Lollipop Auto Cal Min/Max Antimicrobial Thermometer
This FlashCheck Anti-Microbial Lollipop® waterproof thermometer
records the highest temperature of a hi-temp dishwasher to verify that
proper sanitization temperature has been reached. It is an ideal food
thermometer for all commercial food service facilities and can be used
to check the temperature of frozen and cooked products, especially
“thin mass” food defined per FDA Food Code 4-302.12(B).
This food sanitation solution uses an NSF certified thermometer encased in a protective
plastic heat shield to ensure the long term integrity of the LCD display. The thermometer
body is housed in the shield while the probe is exposed to verify that minimum sanitizing
temperature has been reached It complies with the U.S. Public Health Services Food Code
4-203. and is a certifiable HACCP tool.

Overview

The FlashCheck Model 1050 is an anti-microbial, waterproof lollipop-style thermometer designed for commercial food service facilities. Its primary function is to verify proper sanitization temperatures in high-temperature dishwashers and to check the temperature of various food products, including frozen, cooked, and "thin mass" foods as defined by FDA Food Code 4-302.12(B). This device is NSF certified and encased in a protective plastic heat shield to ensure the long-term integrity of its LCD display. It complies with U.S. Public Health Services Food Code 4-203 and is a certifiable HACCP tool.

Function Description:

The FlashCheck Model 1050 records the highest temperature reached during a high-temperature dishwasher cycle, allowing users to verify that the sanitization temperature has been achieved. It can also be used as a general food thermometer to measure the temperature of various food items. The thermometer features a Min/Max reading memory, which allows users to recall the highest and lowest temperatures recorded during a measurement session. Its waterproof design ensures durability and ease of cleaning in demanding commercial environments. The anti-microbial properties contribute to maintaining hygiene standards.

Important Technical Specifications:

While specific numerical ranges for temperature measurement are not provided in the manual, the device is designed for use in high-temperature dishwashers and for checking food temperatures, implying a relevant operational range for these applications. The thermometer's LCD display is protected by a heat shield. It is NSF certified, indicating compliance with public health and safety standards. The device is switchable between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F) temperature scales. The calibration procedure specifies a tolerance range of ±0.54°F (0.3°C) for accurate readings.

Usage Features:

General Operation:

  • Power On/Off: Press the [On/Off] button to switch the unit on or off.
  • °C/°F Switchable: Press the [°C/°F] button to change the temperature scale between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
  • Min/Max Reading Memory:
    • Press the [MIN/MAX] button once to display the maximum temperature recorded.
    • Press the button again to display the minimum temperature recorded.
    • Press the button a third time to return to the current temperature.
    • To clear the memory readings and return to the current temperature, switch the unit off and then on again.

As a Dishwasher Thermometer:

  1. Remove the probe cover and reset the memory (by turning the unit off and on).
  2. Place the thermometer in the dishwasher before the wash cycle begins.
  3. Remove the thermometer at the end of the wash cycle.
  4. Press [MIN/MAX] to view the highest temperature reached during the cycle, verifying sanitization.

As a Food Thermometer:

  1. Insert the probe into the food product.
  2. Wait for the readout to stabilize to get an accurate temperature.
  3. For cool-down temperature monitoring, insert the probe into the product first, then reset the memory (by turning the unit off and on). The [MIN/MAX] function will then show the lowest temperature reached during the cool-down period.

Calibration Procedure:

The thermometer requires an ice bath calibration to ensure accuracy.

  1. Prepare Ice Bath: Fill a cup with crushed ice, add cold water to 1/2 inch below the ice level. Stir and let it sit for two minutes to stabilize the temperature.
  2. Power On & Set Scale: Turn on the thermometer and set it to the desired °C or °F scale.
  3. Insert Probe: Place the probe tip in the center of the cup, ensuring it is fully submerged in the ice water but not touching the cup surface. Stir for a minimum of 15 seconds.
  4. Initiate Calibration: Keep the probe tip completely submerged. Press and hold the "CAL" button for 2 seconds until "CAL" appears on the LCD display. Release the button.
  5. Completion: Calibration is complete when the display automatically returns to the normal operation mode.

Calibration Notes:

  • The probe tip must be fully submerged in the ice water throughout the calibration process.
  • If "Err 1" appears, it indicates the first reading was greater than 35.6°F (2°C). To clear, turn off the thermometer and restart.
  • If "Err2" appears, it means the average reading was outside the ±0.54°F (0.3°C) tolerance range. To clear, turn off the thermometer and restart.
  • During calibration, after "CAL" appears, the thermometer will take readings until a stable set is recorded, display the last 3 readings with a "C" before the number, and then complete calibration, returning to operation mode.

Maintenance Features:

The device's waterproof design facilitates easy cleaning, which is crucial for hygiene in food service environments. The protective plastic heat shield for the LCD display helps maintain the device's integrity and longevity, reducing the need for frequent replacements due to environmental damage. Regular calibration, as outlined in the manual, is a key maintenance aspect to ensure the continued accuracy and reliability of the thermometer for food safety compliance. The anti-microbial lollipop design further contributes to maintaining sanitary conditions during use.
