This document is a user manual for the DEWALT D25123 and D25124 heavy-duty rotary hammerdrills. It provides detailed information on the device's function, technical specifications, usage, and maintenance.
Function Description
The DEWALT D25123 and D25124 are heavy-duty rotary hammerdrills designed for professional use. They are capable of performing various tasks including:
- Rotary drilling: For screwdriving and drilling into steel, wood, and plastics.
- Hammerdrilling: For concrete and masonry drilling operations.
- Chiselling: For light chipping, chiselling, and demolition applications.
- Bit rotation (non-working position): Used to rotate a flat chisel into the desired position.
The tools are equipped with a torque limiting clutch that reduces the maximum torque reaction transmitted to the operator in case of a jammed drill bit. This feature also prevents the gearing and electric motor from stalling. The torque limiting clutch is factory-set and cannot be adjusted.

Usage Features
The hammerdrills offer several features for ease of use and safety:
- Mode Selector Switch (d): Allows selection between rotary drilling, hammerdrilling, bit rotation, and hammering only modes. A safety lock (e) must be pressed to rotate the switch.
- Variable Speed Switch (a): Controls the tool speed based on pressure applied.
- Lock-on Button (b): For continuous operation.
- Forward/Reverse Slider (c): Changes the direction of rotation. It is important to wait until the motor has come to a complete standstill before changing direction.
- Side Handle (j): Can be fitted for both right-hand and left-hand users, providing better control and safety. It is recommended to always use the side handle.
- Depth Adjustment Rod (i) and Clamp (k): Allows precise setting of drilling depth.
- SDS Plus® Tool Holder (f): Designed for quick and secure insertion and removal of SDS Plus® accessories. Accessories should be cleaned and greased before insertion.
- Keyless Chuck (D25124K): The D25124 model comes with a keyless chuck that can be interchanged with the SDS Plus® tool holder. For the D25123, a chuck adapter/chuck assembly is used. Standard chucks should never be used in hammerdrilling mode.
- Chisel Indexing: The chisel can be indexed and locked into 52 different positions for optimal working angles.
- Dust Cover (g): Prevents dust ingress into the mechanism.
Safety Guidelines:
- Always wear safety goggles or other eye protection, ear protectors, and a dust mask/respirator.
- Use auxiliary handles supplied with the tool.
- Hold power tools by insulated gripping surfaces when performing operations where the cutting tool may contact hidden wiring or its own cord.
- Use clamps or other practical ways to secure and support the workpiece.
- Keep the power cord away from the rotating bit.
- Do not operate the tool for long periods of time due to vibration, and use gloves to provide extra cushion and limit exposure by taking frequent rest periods.
- Do not use the tool to mix or pump easily combustible or explosive fluids.
Maintenance Features
The DEWALT power tool is designed for long-term operation with minimal maintenance. Proper tool care and regular cleaning are essential for continuous satisfactory operation.
- Motor Brushes: The tool uses an advanced brush system that automatically stops the drill when the brushes wear out, preventing serious damage to the motor. New brush assemblies are available at authorised DEWALT service centers, and identical replacement parts should be used. The tool will automatically switch off when the carbon brushes are worn.
- Lubrication: The power tool itself requires no additional lubrication. However, accessories and attachments used must be regularly lubricated around the SDS Plus® fitment.
- Cleaning:
- Blow dirt and dust out of the main housing with dry air as often as dirt is seen collecting in and around the air vents. Wear approved eye protection and a dust mask when performing this procedure.
- Never use solvents or other harsh chemicals for cleaning the non-metallic parts of the tool. Use a cloth dampened only with water and mild soap.
- Never let any liquid get inside the tool; never immerse any part of the tool into a liquid.
- Dust Cover (g): Replace a worn dust cover immediately to prevent dust ingress.
- Chisel Reconditioning: Chisel reconditioning should be done by an authorized specialist. Slightly worn chisels can be resharpened by grinding.
- Service: The machine is not user-serviceable. It should be taken to an authorised DEWALT repair agent after approximately 40 hours of use, or sooner if problems occur.
DEWALT offers a 30-day no-risk satisfaction guarantee, a one-year free service contract, and a one-year full warranty for professional users, provided the product has not been misused, subjected to fair wear and tear, and repairs have not been attempted by unauthorised persons. Proof of purchase is required for all claims.
