Overview

The DEWALT D27105/D27105V is a versatile flip-over saw designed for professional users, capable of operating as both a mitre saw and a saw bench. This dual functionality allows it to perform four main sawing operations: ripping, cross-cutting, bevelling, and mitring, all with ease, accuracy, and safety. The tool is intended for use with a nominal 305 mm carbide tip blade, suitable for cutting wood, wood products, and plastics. It is crucial to avoid using the tool in wet conditions or in the presence of flammable liquids or gases.

Function Description

In mitre saw mode, the sawing machine is used in a vertical, mitre, or bevel position. This mode is ideal for precise angle cuts, such as those required for crown moulding or picture frames. The saw head is automatically locked in an upper "park" position when not in use. Squeezing the guard release lever unlocks the saw head, and moving the saw head down retracts the movable lower guard. The front section of the guard is louvred for visibility during cutting, reducing flying debris.

In saw bench mode, the machine is flipped over on its central axis. In this configuration, it performs standard ripping operations and allows for sawing wide pieces by manually feeding the workpiece into the blade. This mode requires the arm to be securely fixed in the working position and the table to be correctly locked. The upper blade guard must be correctly fitted and aligned with the riving knife for safe operation.

Usage Features

The D27105/D27105V incorporates several features to enhance usability and safety:

  • Adjustable Settings: The mitre saw offers a wide range of adjustable settings. Mitre positions can be set from 48° left to 48° right, with detents at common angles like 15°, 22.5°, 35.3°, and 45°. Bevel positions can be set from 48° left to 2° right. These adjustments are made using locking knobs and clamp handles, which must be tightened securely before any operation.
  • Compound Mitre Cuts: For complex cuts like those for frames or boxes with slanting sides, the saw can perform compound mitre cuts, combining both mitre and bevel angles. A chart is provided in the manual to assist in selecting the proper bevel and mitre settings for common compound mitre cuts.
  • Fence Adjustments: The fence on the left side can be adjusted to provide clearance for bevel cuts up to 48° left. In saw bench mode, the parallel fence can be mounted on either side of the blade and adjusted for parallelism. The fence is reversible, allowing for guidance along a 75 mm or 11 mm face, which is particularly useful when ripping thin workpieces with a push stick.
  • Riving Knife: The riving knife is a critical safety component in saw bench mode, preventing kickback. It must be correctly adjusted, with its top no more than 2 mm below the highest tooth of the blade and its body 3-8 mm from the saw blade teeth.
  • Dust Extraction: The machine is equipped with two dust extraction points, one for each mode. It is recommended to connect a dust collection device to minimize dust emission, especially when sawing wood.
  • Optional Accessories: Various optional accessories are available to expand the tool's capabilities, including adjustable stands, support guide rails, inclinable supports, swivelling stops, length stops, roller support tables, extension tables, and sliding tables. These accessories enhance workpiece support and allow for handling larger or more complex materials.
  • Switching Systems: The machine features two independent switching systems. In mitre saw mode, a trigger switch is used, which can be locked with a padlock for security. In saw bench mode, an on/off switch with a no-volt release function and a motor overload protector with manual reset is used. The switch box also includes a hinged safety enclosure plate that can be locked with a padlock and serves as an emergency stop button.
  • Laser (D27105V only): The D27105V model includes a class 2 laser to indicate the cutting line, aiding in precise cuts.

Maintenance Features

To ensure continuous satisfactory operation and longevity, the DEWALT D27105/D27105V requires regular care and cleaning:

  • Cleaning: The upper blade guard, movable lower blade guard, and dust extraction tube should be regularly checked for proper operation and cleared of any chips, dust, or workpiece particles that could cause blockages. The main housing and air vents should be blown out with dry air, and the table top and dust collection system should be regularly cleaned. Solvents or harsh chemicals should not be used on non-metallic parts.
  • Lubrication: The motor bearings are pre-lubricated and watertight. The rotating table bearing surface should be lightly oiled at regular intervals where it slides on the lip of the fixed table. The depth of cut screw thread should also be periodically lubricated. Parts subject to sawdust and chips accumulation should be cleaned with a dry brush.
  • Blade Changes: Blades should always be changed in mitre saw mode, with the machine disconnected from the power supply. The spindle lock button should be depressed while loosening the left-hand threaded blade locking screw. Only correctly sharpened saw blades that conform to the specified dimensions and EN 847-1 standards should be used.
  • Adjustments: Periodic checks and adjustments are necessary to maintain accuracy. This includes checking and adjusting the blade to the fence, the mitre pointer, the blade to the table, the fence itself, and the bevel angle. Cam adjustment can be performed to take out clearance between the two tables.
  • General Maintenance: The machine should be disconnected from the mains before any maintenance work or blade changes. Damaged parts should be repaired or replaced by an authorized service centre. Handles and switches should be kept dry, clean, and free from oil and grease.
