Auto-balance Feature
DWE4599 only
The auto-balance feature continuously adjusts balance to
reduce the vibration of the tool when it is running. This
improves user comfort during the operation and is particularly
useful when using the tool for long periods of time.
ASSEMBLY AND ADJUSTMENTS
WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal
injury, turn tool off and disconnect tool from power
source before making any adjustments or removing/
installing attachments or accessories. Before
reconnecting the tool, depress and release the trigger
switch to ensure that the tool is off.
Attaching Side Handle (Fig.F)
WARNING: Before using the tool, check that the handle is
tightened securely.
For grinding, screw the side handle

tightly into one of the
holes

on either side of the gear case (Fig.F).
For cutting, screw the side handle

tightly into the top hole

or into one of the holes
17
on either side of the gear case.
Fitting and Removing aBacking pad/
Sanding sheet (Fig.A,D)
1. Place the tool on atable or flat surface, with the guard
facing up.
2. Remove the backing flange

3. Place the rubber backing pad correctly onto the spindle

4. Place the sanding sheet on the rubber backing pad.
5. Screw the threaded clamp nut
14
onto the spindle. The
ring on the threaded clamp nut must face towards the
rubber backing pad.
6. Press the spindle lock button

and rotate the spindle

until it locks in position.
7. Tighten the threaded clamp nut
14
with the two-
pinspanner.
8. Release the spindle lock.
9. To remove the rubber backing pad, loosen the threaded
clamp nut

with the two-pin spanner.
Fitting aWire Cup Brush
Screw the wire cup brush directly onto the spindle without the
use of the spacer and threaded flange.
Mounting and Removing the Guard
(Fig.B)
WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal
injury, turn tool off and disconnect tool from power
source before making any adjustments or removing/
installing attachments or accessories. Before
reconnecting the tool, depress and release the trigger
switch to ensure that the tool is off.
CAUTION: Guards must be used with this grinder.
When using the DWE4557, DWE4559, DWE4579, DWE4579R,
DWE4597 or the DWE4599 grinder for cutting metal or masonry
aType 1 guard MUST be used. Type 1 guards are available at
extra cost from D
EWALT distributors.
NOTE: Please refer to the Grinding and Cutting Accessory
Chart at the end of this section to show other accessories that
can be used with these grinders.
1. Place the angle grinder on atable, spindle up.
2. Release the clamping lock

and hold the guard

over the
tool as shown.
3. Align the lugs

with the notches

4. Press the guard down and rotate it to the required posiiton.
5. If required, increase the clamping force by tightening the
screw

6. Tighten the clamping lock.
To remove the guard, release the clamping lock.
CAUTION: If the guard cannot be tightened by the
adjusting screw, do not use the tool. To reduce the risk of
personal injury, take the tool and guard to aservice centre
to repair or replace the guard.
Fitting and Removing aGrinding or Cutting
Disc (Fig.A,C–E)
WARNING: Do not use adamaged disc.
1. Place the tool on atable, guard up.
2. Fit the backing flange

correctly onto the spindle

(Fig.C).
3. Place the disc

on the backing flange

fitting adisc with araised centre, make sure that the raised
centre

is facing the backing flange

4. Screw the threaded clamp nut

onto the spindle

a. The ring on the threaded clamp nut

must face
towards the disc when fitting agrinding disc (Fig. E1);
b. The ring on the threaded clamp nut

must face away
from the disc when fitting acutting disc (Fig.E2).
5. Press the spindle lock button

and rotate the spindle

until it locks in position (Fig.D).
6. Tighten the threaded clamp nut

with the two-pin
spanner supplied. NOTE: Refer to Fitting and Removing
aGrinding or Cutting Disc with aKeyless Flange when
using the DWE4579R.
7. Release the spindle lock.
8. To remove the disc, loosen the threaded clamp nut
14
with
the two-pin spanner.
