Overview

This document provides a quick reference guide for installing DISH Pro and DISH Pro Plus satellite systems, detailing various configurations for different numbers of orbital locations and tuners, as well as compatibility information for receivers, LNBFs, and switches.

Function Description:

The DISH Pro and DISH Pro Plus systems are designed to receive satellite television signals from multiple orbital locations and distribute them to one or more tuners in satellite receivers. These systems utilize specialized Low Noise Block Feedhorns (LNBFs) and switches to manage signal reception and routing. DISH Pro systems primarily support up to three orbital locations, while DISH Pro Plus systems extend this capability to four orbital locations and offer enhanced features like single-cable, dual-tuner installations for compatible receivers. The core function is to allow users to access a wider range of satellite channels and provide flexibility in setting up multi-tuner or multi-receiver households.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Orbital Locations Supported:
    • Two Orbital Locations: DISH 500 (110°, 119°).
    • Three Orbital Locations: DISH 500 (110°, 119°, 129°), DISH 1000 (110°, 119°, 129°), SuperDISH (110°, 119°, 105° or 110°, 119°, 121°).
    • Four Orbital Locations: SuperDISH (110°, 119°, 105° or 110°, 119°, 121°) combined with DISH 1000 (110°, 119°, 129°) or DISH 500 (61.5° or 148°).
  • LNBF Types:
    • DISH Pro (DP) Products: DP Single LNBF, DP Dual LNBF, DP Twin LNBF, DP Quad LNBF.
    • DISH Pro Plus (DP Plus) Products: DP Plus Twin LNBF.
  • Switch Types:
    • DISH Pro (DP) Products: DP21 Switch, DP34 Switch.
    • DISH Pro Plus (DP Plus) Products: DP Plus 44 Switch.
  • Maximum Tuner Support:
    • Two Orbital Locations: Up to 4 tuners (DP Quad on DISH 500).
    • Three Orbital Locations: Up to 12 tuners (using DP Twin/Dual LNBFs and up to 3 DP34 Switches), up to 24 tuners (using DP Quad/Dual LNBFs and up to 6 DP34 Switches).
    • Four Orbital Locations: Up to 24 tuners (using SuperDISH/DISH 1000, DP Dual on DISH 500, and up to 3 DP Plus 44 Switches), up to 48 tuners (using SuperDISH/DISH 1000, DP Dual on DISH 500, DP-approved Splitters, and up to 6 DP Plus 44 Switches).
  • Cable Specifications: Materials must be rated to 2150 MHz and pass DiSEqC 22 KHz tone. Recommended cable types include RG-6.
  • Maximum Cable Length: 200 feet from LNBFs to the furthest DISH Pro or DISH Pro Plus receiver; 150 feet for Legacy receivers.
  • Power Requirements: Each DP Plus 44 Switch requires a Power Inserter on port 1. Each DP34 switch must have a connected receiver to supply power.
  • Grounding: Required according to the National Electric Code (NEC) and all local electrical codes.

Usage Features:

  • Multi-Tuner Support: Allows multiple tuners within a single receiver or across multiple receivers to access different satellite channels simultaneously.
  • Multi-Orbital Location Reception: Enables reception of signals from various satellite positions, expanding the available channel lineup.
  • Legacy Receiver Compatibility: DISH Pro Adapter allows older (Legacy) satellite receivers (e.g., Models 1000-6000, DISHPlayer 7100/7200) to connect to DISH Pro LNBFs or Switches. Note: The adapter is not needed when a Legacy receiver is directly connected to a DP Plus LNBF or Switch. Single Legacy receiver installations are not supported with DP Plus Twin.
  • Single-Cable, Dual-Tuner Installations (DISH Pro Plus): For compatible DP Plus receivers, a single cable can carry signals for two tuners when used with a DP Plus LNBF/Switch and a DP Plus Separator. This simplifies wiring in multi-tuner setups.
  • Flexible Configurations: The guide illustrates numerous wiring diagrams for various combinations of LNBFs, switches, and receivers to accommodate different household needs (e.g., 2, 4, 6, 12, 24, or 48 tuners).
  • DISH Pro Plus Separator: A key component for enabling single-cable, dual-tuner functionality with DP Plus receivers.
  • Switch Power: DISH Pro switches (DP21, DP34) are powered by connected receivers. DP Plus 44 switches require a dedicated power inserter.

Maintenance Features:

  • Drip Loops: Recommended for F-connectors to direct water away and prevent damage.
  • Proper Mounting: Switches should be positioned according to instructions on their labels for optimal performance and longevity.
  • Component Compatibility: The document includes a detailed compatibility chart for LNBFs, switches, and receivers, which is crucial for troubleshooting and ensuring proper system function. Using incompatible components can lead to system malfunction or limited functionality.
  • Installation Materials: Emphasizes the use of specific, high-quality materials (RG-6 cable, ground blocks, diplexers, splitters, line amps, barrel connectors, wall plates, surge protectors) rated for satellite frequencies to ensure reliable signal transmission and system durability.
  • Grounding: Adherence to NEC and local electrical codes for grounding is a critical safety and performance measure, protecting the system from electrical surges and static discharge.
