Overview

The provided manual describes the Sealand MasterFlush™ Toilets, specifically the 8900 and 8600 Series, manufactured by Dometic Group. These are macerator toilets designed for marine applications, providing an electric-flush system to process waste.

Function Description

The Sealand MasterFlush toilet is an electric-flush toilet that macerates waste and pumps it to a holding tank or other effluent storage/disposal system. It operates via a wall-mounted flush switch, allowing users to add water to the bowl (before use or flushing) and to flush the toilet by pushing a button. The Dometic flush switch panel includes indicator lights for power activation and holding tank status. A key safety feature is the automatic "full tank" shut-down, which prevents overfilling of the holding tank when connected to a level indication system, thereby preventing potential damage to the boat.

Installation Versatility: The powerful macerator pump allows the toilet to be located up to 98 ft. (30 m) away and 9.8 ft. (3 m) below the holding tank or other discharge line destination.

Usage Features

  • Convenient Electronic Flush: Users can add water to the bowl or flush with a simple touch of a button on the Dometic flush switch/status panel (fig. 3, page 6).
  • Two Water Consumption Settings:
    • Normal flush: Uses 0.85 gal. (3.2 liters) per flush and adds water to the bowl after flushing.
    • Dry Bowl flush: Uses only 0.45 gal. (1.7 liters) per flush and does not add water to the bowl. The flush mode can be changed by pressing the "Flush" switch for about five seconds until the "Power On" light flashes.
  • Indicator Lights:
    • "Power On" indicator (fig. 3 3, page 6): A steady green light indicates electrical power to the toilet is activated. A momentary flashing green light indicates a change in flush mode.
    • "Full Tank" indicator (fig. 3 4, page 6): A red light illuminates when the holding tank is full, signaling that it needs to be pumped out. When this light is on, electrical power to the toilet automatically shuts off to prevent overfilling.
  • Bidet Operation (on models with integrated bidet only):
    • Turn on the bidet faucet by turning the handle away from the toilet (fig. 4, page 7).
    • Adjust water temperature by turning the handle up for warm water and down for cool water (fig. 5, page 7).
    • Use the electronic "Flush" switch to clear the toilet bowl during and after bidet use.
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Hazard of Flooding: If connected to through-the-hull fittings, seacocks must be closed when the toilet is not in use. If using fresh water from a shoreside municipal system, connections must be disconnected if the boat is unattended. All electrical power must be turned off and seacocks closed before any work on the product.
    • Overfilling Holding Tank: Dometic recommends using the "full" tank shut-down relay in the toilet's electronic control module, which can be triggered by an optional Dometic DTM01C or DTM04 tank monitor system, to prevent damage from overfilling.
    • Foreign Objects: Only water, bodily wastes, and rapid-dissolving toilet tissue should be flushed. Avoid wet wipes, sanitary napkins, condoms, diapers, paper cups, cotton swabs, food, hair, oils, or solvents to prevent clogging or damage.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning the Toilet:

  • Use SeaLand® Toilet Bowl Cleaner or other non-abrasive bathroom and toilet bowl cleaners to maintain appearance.
  • Caution: Do not use abrasive cleaners, caustic chemicals, lubricants, or cleaners containing alcohols or petroleum distillates, as these can damage internal seals.

Routine Maintenance:

  • Monthly:
    • Inspect the toilet, plumbing, and electrical connections.
    • Open and close all plumbing valves, including seacocks.
    • Check in-line water filters and vented loops for blockages.
  • Yearly:
    • Check the water valve filter. Also check if water flow becomes insufficient.

During Extended Periods of Non-Use (more than two weeks, especially in hot weather):

  1. Flush the toilet in "Normal" mode and add 4 oz. (118 ml) of liquid biodegradable laundry detergent (without bleach or environmentally harmful substances). If using seawater for flushing, shut off the seawater pump and add fresh water directly into the bowl during the flush cycle.
  2. Flush the toilet with water at least five times.
  3. Turn off the water supply to the toilet.
  4. Flush the toilet without water three times to minimize remaining water in the macerator pump.
  5. Turn off power to the toilet.

Winterizing (if exposed to freezing temperatures):

  • Use potable water-safe antifreeze (propylene glycol). Never use automotive-type antifreeze (ethylene glycol) in freshwater systems.

  • Pressurized Fresh Water System:

    1. Drain potable water tank and empty holding tank.
    2. Add freshwater antifreeze to the potable water tank.
    3. Flush the antifreeze and water mixture through the toilet(s) and into the entire system (holding tank, diverter valve connections, discharge pumps, etc.).
    4. Turn off power to the toilet.
  • Raw Water System:

    1. Close intake and discharge seacocks.
    2. Turn off power to the toilet.
    3. Disconnect and drain intake hose, discharge hose, and in-line filters.
    4. Connect a 0.625 in. (16 mm) ID hose to the raw water pump intake and a 1.5 in. (38 mm) ID hose to the toilet discharge.
    5. Place one container under the hose connected to the toilet's discharge.
    6. Place the hose connected to the intake pump into a bucket with antifreeze and pour antifreeze into another container.
    7. Turn on power to the toilet and flush until antifreeze is removed from the toilet.
    8. Disconnect power to the toilet and reconnect all intake and drain hoses.

The manual also provides a troubleshooting guide for common issues such as slow emptying, loud pump noise, flush cycle not activating, insufficient water entry, and insufficient bidet water flow, along with possible causes and service instructions. Warranty information is provided for North America, the Rest of the World, and Europe, detailing one-year and five-year limited warranties for specific components, and exclusions for damages due to improper installation or misuse. Customer service contact information is also included.
