Overview

The D+H CPS-B1 is a microprocessor-based control panel designed primarily for smoke and heat exhaust ventilation (SHEV) systems, particularly in staircases. It operates as a single-line, single-group control unit, providing essential functions for both emergency smoke ventilation and daily comfort ventilation. The system is designed for indoor mounting only.

Function Description

The primary function of the CPS-B1 is to manage and control smoke and heat exhaust ventilation in the event of a fire. It can be triggered manually via smoke vent buttons, automatically by fire detectors, or through an external fire alarm system. Upon activation, the control panel initiates the opening of smoke vents to allow smoke and heat to escape, thereby maintaining clear escape routes and facilitating firefighting efforts.

The control panel features a "High-speed function (HS)" for D+H drives, ensuring that in a SHEV event, the drives open to their defined position within 60 seconds. For daily ventilation, this function also allows for reduced drive speed, contributing to noise reduction. A "SHEV retriggering" feature, when enabled via DIP switch S1.5, triggers the smoke vents with an OPEN-impulse every 2 minutes for 30 minutes, provided the drives are blockage-safe.

In addition to emergency functions, the CPS-B1 supports comfort functions for daily ventilation. Users can open and close vents for day-to-day air circulation. The system also integrates with weather automatic sensors (wind and rain detectors) to automatically close vents in adverse weather conditions, protecting the building from damage. If an alarm is released by the SHEV system, the vents will open regardless of wind and rain. However, it's crucial not to ventilate via the smoke vent button during bad weather to avoid damage. An optional automatic switch allows for gap ventilation even in bad weather by switching off the weather automatic.

The CPS-B1 includes a servicetimer that indicates when maintenance is due, typically after 14 to 16 months, by flashing the yellow LED in the smoke vent button. A malfunction in the smoke vent system is indicated by the extinction of the green LED in the smoke vent button. Depending on presetting, the ventilation function OPEN may be interrupted after the maintenance time expires. Resetting the servicetimer requires a specialist company authorized by the appliance manufacturer.

The control panel also has an internal temperature monitoring device. If the internal temperature exceeds 72°C (e.g., due to radiant heat from a fire), the entire smoke and heat vent system will automatically open under alarm conditions.

Usage Features

The CPS-B1 is designed for straightforward operation, with clear indicators and accessible controls.

  • Manual Opening: Smoke vents can be manually opened by pressing the "OPEN" button on a smoke vent button.
  • Automatic Opening: The system automatically opens vents upon detection of fire by connected fire detectors or activation by an external fire alarm system.
  • Closing After Alarm: After an alarm, vents can be closed by opening the housings of the control panel and buttons using the provided keys. For automatic releases (fire detector or external control), closing may depend on DIP switch S1.3 settings.
  • Emergency Closing: In the event of a non-resettable alarm, an emergency closing procedure is available, typically involving a sustained press (over 1 second) of the "RESET" button.
  • Day-to-Day Ventilation: Vents can be opened, closed, or stopped for daily ventilation using dedicated ventilation buttons or SHEV buttons with ventilation functionality (e.g., RT 45-LT).
  • Weather Automatic: If wind and rain detectors are connected, the system automatically closes vents in adverse weather. This feature can be temporarily overridden for gap ventilation with an optional automatic switch.
  • DIP Switch Settings: Various operational parameters can be configured using DIP switches, including line fault and group fault alarm behavior, remote reset for detector lines, closing group in case of alarm, SHEV retriggering, power failure "CLOSE" behavior, extended line monitoring, operation without battery, storage operation for OPEN/CLOSE, ventilation time limitation, reset with alarm pending, and a lamp test function.
  • Magnetic Clamps: The control panel supports magnetic clamps (24V, max. 250 mA overall power) for holding doors open, though no output voltage is provided during a power failure.
  • Alarm Interlock: A country-specific alarm interlock function can be implemented by connecting multiple control panels.

Maintenance Features

The CPS-B1 emphasizes regular maintenance to ensure reliable operation of the safety equipment.

  • Regular Visual Inspection: Operators or trained personnel should conduct regular visual inspections to identify and correct any defects immediately. This includes checking that green LEDs in the buttons illuminate and that yellow LEDs do not illuminate or flash (indicating a fault). If issues are observed, After Sales service should be contacted.
  • Annual Specialist Maintenance: The system requires annual maintenance by a specialist company authorized by the appliance manufacturer. This involves renewing the test badge and keeping a log book.
  • Maintenance Scope: Maintenance includes an outside examination/inspection of system components, checking all relevant power supply units, functional testing of connected system components, and recording the maintenance performed.
  • Inspection Points: During inspection, all appliances and cable connections should be checked for outer damage and dirt accumulation. Fire detectors, smoke vent buttons, and smoke vents must not be impaired by stored goods or structural changes.
  • Repair and Cleaning: Repair work must be carried out exclusively by D+H using only original D+H spare parts. The device should be cleaned with a dry, soft cloth, avoiding cleaning agents or solvents.
  • Disposal: Electrical devices, accessories, batteries, and packaging should be sorted for environmentally friendly recycling. They must not be disposed of with household waste. For EC countries, disposal must comply with European Guideline 2012/19/EU for waste electrical and electronic equipment.
