  If the recoil on your DR Utility Vehicle is difficult to pull, start by checking the engine oil level. An oil compression lock in the cylinder may also be the cause. To resolve this, remove the spark plug, cover the spark plug hole with a rag, and pull the recoil cord several times to clear any oil from the cylinder. Wipe the spark plug and reinstall it. If the engine pulley turns by hand with the spark plug wire off, the recoil may be broken or jammed.

If the gas is old, replace it and use a fuel stabilizer if storing gas for over a month. Also, check the throttle adjustment and cable travel. Replace a dirty or cracked spark plug. If the spark plug is oily, remove it, cover the plug hole with a rag, pull the recoil cord to remove oil from the cylinder, then clean and reinsert the plug. Finally, make sure the air filter is clean and check the Operator Presence switch connections beneath the panel at the key switch and at the engine.
