Overview

This document serves as a Quick Start Guide for the DrayTek Web Smart Gigabit Switch, specifically covering the VigorSwitch P1282 and G1282 models. It provides essential information for installation, configuration, and general use of the device.

Function Description:

The DrayTek Web Smart Gigabit Switch is a standard switch that complies with IEEE 802.3u/ab Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet specifications. It is designed for office applications, enabling network administrators to monitor, configure, and control the activity of each port. The switch also implements Quality of Service (QoS) and Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) functionalities. The P1282 model supports Power over Ethernet (PoE) on ports 1-24, providing both data and power to connected PoE devices. The G1282 model is a non-PoE version. Ports 25-28 on both models are designated for fiber connections (SFP LNK/ACT).

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Models Covered: VigorSwitch P1282 (with PoE) and VigorSwitch G1282 (without PoE).
  • Port Configuration: 24-Port UTP/SFP Combo Gigabit Ports plus 4 SFP ports (ports 25-28).
  • PoE Support (P1282):
    • IEEE 802.3af Max. 15.4 W output supported.
    • IEEE 802.3at Max. 30W output supported.
    • PoE Power Budget: 340 watts (max).
  • Connectivity Speeds:
    • RJ45 LNK/ACT ports (1-24): 1000Mbps (green LED) or 10/100Mbps (amber LED).
    • SFP LNK/ACT ports (25-28): 1000Mbps (green LED) or 10/100Mbps (amber LED).
  • Power Input: AC input (100~240V/AC, 50/60 Hz).
  • Default IP Address: 192.168.1.224.
  • Default Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0.
  • Default Gateway: 192.168.1.254.
  • DHCP Client: Enabled by default.

Usage Features:

  • Network Connection:
    • For PoE devices (P1282), use a Cat 5e twisted pair cable to connect to ports 1-24. The switch will supply power to compliant IEEE 802.3af/at devices.
    • For other PCs, servers, and network devices, use a standard "straight" twisted pair cable to connect to any RJ45 port.
    • Ports 25-28 are dedicated for fiber connections.
  • Web-based Management: The switch can be configured and monitored via a web browser. After physically connecting the switch to a PC and ensuring they are on the same subnet, users can access the switch's web interface by entering its IP address (default: 192.168.1.224) in a browser.
  • Dashboard: The web interface provides a dashboard displaying system information such as model, firmware, CPU usage, memory usage, build date, system time, and uptime.
  • LED Indicators:
    • PoE/max. (P1282 only): Green indicates connection within the maximum PoE power budget.
    • SYSTEM: Green indicates the system is ready; flickering green indicates system boot; off indicates power off or system not ready.
    • can: Green indicates the device is on and working normally; off indicates the device is not ready or has failed.
    • PoE 1~24: Green indicates PoE power supplied; off indicates no PoE power supplied.
    • RJ 45 LNK/ACT (1-24) / Combo to Oporto (25-28) (RJ 45): Green indicates 1000Mbps connection; amber indicates 10/100Mbps connection; flickering indicates data transmission; off indicates port down or link failure.
    • SFP LNK/ACT: Green indicates 1000Mbps connection; amber indicates 10/100Mbps connection; flickering indicates data transmission; off indicates port down or link failure.
  • Rack Mounting: The switch can be easily installed in a 19-inch or 23-inch rack using the provided rack mount kit. Brackets are attached to the chassis, and then the chassis is secured to the rack with screws.

Maintenance Features:

  • Firmware Updates: DrayTek regularly updates firmware. Users are encouraged to visit the DrayTek website for the latest firmware, tools, and documentation to ensure optimal performance and security.
