Overview

This document is an owner's manual and safety instructions for a Drummond submersible utility pump, available in 1/3 HP and 1/6 HP models. The manual emphasizes safety, proper installation, operation, and maintenance to ensure the longevity and safe use of the device.

Function Description:

The Drummond submersible utility pump is designed for pumping water. Its primary function is to remove water from flooded areas such as basements, window wells, garages, and flat roofs. It can also be used for transferring water in various applications, including household, farming, and plumbing tasks. The pump is specifically designed for use with water only and is not suitable for continuous run applications, fountain/pond water features, or septic/sewage systems. It should not be used with caustic fluids, abrasive materials, fuels, cleaning fluids, or other chemical products.

Important Technical Specifications:

The manual provides specifications for two models: 63318 (1/3 HP) and 63319 (1/6 HP).

For model 63318 (1/3 HP):

  • Horse Power: 1/3 HP
  • Electrical Rating: 120VAC / 60Hz / 3A
  • Power Cord Length: 25'
  • Maximum Flow @ 0': 2000 GPH (Gallons Per Hour)
  • Maximum Head lift @ 0' Flow: 31'
  • Discharge Port: 1" NPT

For model 63319 (1/6 HP):

  • Horse Power: 1/6 HP
  • Electrical Rating: 120VAC / 60Hz / 2.2A
  • Power Cord Length: 10'
  • Maximum Flow @ 0': 1600 GPH
  • Maximum Head lift @ 0' Flow: 25'
  • Discharge Port: 1" NPT

Both models are designed for use with water with a maximum temperature of 77° F (25°C). The pump must be connected to a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) protected plug and outlet, with a supply voltage of 120 VAC at 60 Hz.

Usage Features:

The pump is intended for stationary installation, either with a fixed pipeline or a flexible hose pipe. It should not be suspended by its delivery pipe or power cord but rather suspended from its handle or placed on the bottom of the basin. To ensure proper operation and prevent the pump from stopping due to sludge, the bottom of the basin should be kept free from dirt. The pump will not start without at least 1" of water and can remove water down to 1/4". Once the water level reaches 1/4", the pump should be unplugged.

Safety is a paramount concern, with repeated warnings about electric shock. The pump is supplied with a grounding conductor and grounding-type attachment plug, which must be connected to a properly grounded, grounding-type receptacle. The use of extension cords with this pump is explicitly prohibited. Electrical connections must be protected from moisture, and if there is a risk of flooding, connections should be elevated. Access by children should be prevented. The pump must also be protected from frost and from running dry. Individuals with pacemakers are advised to consult their physician before use due to potential electromagnetic interference.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for the pump's performance and longevity. The manual recommends quarterly maintenance under optimal conditions, with more frequent maintenance for frequent use or dirty environments. Before any inspection, maintenance, or cleaning, the pump must be unplugged from its electrical outlet to prevent accidental operation and serious injury. If the pump is moved during operation, it should be flushed with clean water after every use.

Key maintenance tasks include:

  • Cleaning sludge and debris from the bottom of the basin.
  • Cleaning sludge/debris from the inlet screen.
  • Thoroughly cleaning the pump housing, especially if it cannot be cleaned from the outside. This involves unplugging the power cord, dismantling the bottom part of the pump by removing screws and the volute, and cleaning the impeller with clean water. It's important not to rest the pump on or pry against the impeller to prevent damage during cleaning. Reassembly should be done in reverse order.
  • Ensuring the discharge pipe is free from leaks.
  • Verifying that the check valve is functioning properly.
  • Manually operating the flow switch to confirm that the pump turns on/off as intended.

The manual also includes a parts list and assembly diagram, identifying components such as the pump cord, adaptor, handle, motor, shaft, impeller, gasket, volute, screws, and base. It advises recording the product's serial number (or month and year of purchase if no serial number) for future reference and when ordering replacement parts. It also notes that some parts are for illustration only and may not be available individually as replacement parts.
