Overview

This document serves as an instruction manual for Dunavox wine cabinets, outlining important safeguards, installation procedures, operating instructions, and maintenance guidelines. It emphasizes the proper handling and care of the appliance to ensure safe and efficient operation.

Function Description

Dunavox wine cabinets are designed for the storage of wine, offering a controlled environment to maintain optimal conditions for wine preservation. The units are available in single, dual, or three-temperature zone configurations, depending on the specific model, allowing for versatile storage options for different types of wine (red, white, sparkling).

The core function of these appliances is temperature control, which can be set between 5°C and 18°C (40°F and 64°F or 72°F) for each compartment. Some models offer the flexibility to display temperatures in either Fahrenheit or Celsius. The system is capable of both cooling and heating to maintain the desired storage or serving temperature. A dynamic compressor-type cooling system ensures interior air circulation, promoting even temperature and humidity distribution throughout the cabinet.

For models with multiple temperature zones, the system allows for independent temperature settings for each compartment, catering to the specific needs of various wine types. The electronic temperature control is continuously variable and managed via a digital display and touchpad input.

The wine cabinets feature an automatic defrost system. During the "Off-cycle," the evaporator behind the rear wall of the unit defrosts automatically. Condensate collects in a drain trough and part of it evaporates, with the remaining water collected within the unit to maintain appropriate humidity levels. This system is crucial for preserving the natural corks of wine bottles and ensuring a long-lasting seal.

The appliance is not totally sealed, allowing for fresh air admission through the drainpipe. Air circulation is facilitated by a fan system and hollow shelves. This ventilation helps prevent stale air and maintains a healthy environment for the wine.

Usage Features

The wine cabinets are designed for either built-in, recessed, or free-standing installation, offering flexibility in placement within a home or commercial setting. The door on some models can be reversed to open from either the left or right side, accommodating different kitchen layouts.

User interaction is primarily through a touchpad interface with "UP" and "DOWN" buttons for temperature adjustment. The LED display shows the set temperature. For models with multiple zones, dedicated "Set Upper" and "Set Lower" buttons allow for precise temperature control in each compartment. A "LIGHT" button controls the interior LED lighting, which automatically switches off after 10 minutes to save energy, but can be set to remain on continuously if desired.

The appliance includes several warning systems:

  • Open-door and malfunction warning system: Alerts the user to potential issues.
  • Overtime Open the Door Alarm: If the door is left open for 5 minutes, a buzzer alarm sounds to prevent cold energy loss.
  • Temperature Alarm: Alerts the user if the inner temperature is too high (above 23°C) or too low (below 0°C), displaying "HI" or "LO" respectively, along with a buzzer alarm.

A "Sabbath mode" is available on particular models, which allows the lights to remain off during religious observances. The "Temperature memory function" ensures that if power is interrupted, the unit will resume operation at the last set temperature once power is restored.

The wine cabinets are equipped with reversible tempered double/triple pane glass doors that protect wine from UV light while providing an attractive display. The black coated matte steel outer frame and black plastic interior liner contribute to lifetime performance and stability, and the black liner specifically prevents excessive light from damaging the wine's maturity process.

Beech shelves are provided for maximum convenience and flexibility, accommodating various bottle sizes. Some models also include a security lock system with keys.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of the wine cabinet. The manual provides detailed instructions for cleaning and care.

Cleaning:

  • Before cleaning, the appliance must be unplugged, and all items, including shelves and racks, should be removed.
  • Interior surfaces should be cleaned with lukewarm water and a baking soda solution (approximately 2 tablespoons of baking soda to a pint of water).
  • Shelves should be washed with a mild detergent solution.
  • The outside cabinet can be cleaned with warm water and mild liquid detergent, rinsed well, and wiped dry with a clean, soft cloth.
  • It is specifically advised not to clean stainless steel surfaces with steel wool pads; an all-in-one stainless steel cleaner should be used, cleaning in the direction of the grain.

Shelves:

  • Instructions are provided for removing shelves to facilitate cleaning or to adjust storage configurations. This typically involves pulling out the shelf, lifting the wooden part, and then removing it from the rails. For some models, tilting the shelf is required to remove or fit it securely.

Humidity Control:

  • The appliance is equipped with a passive humidity control system (Humidity Box). In extremely dry environments, users may need to add water to the humidity box provided with the wine cellar. The small plastic reservoir should be filled about ¾ full with water and placed on the runners of the top shelf. Regular checking and refilling of the water level are recommended.

Active Charcoal Air Filter:

  • If the model includes an active charcoal air filter, it is located at the back of the compartment. This filter should be replaced once a year to maintain air quality. Instructions for replacement involve removing the shelf in front of the filter, gripping and turning the old filter 90° clockwise or anti-clockwise to remove, and then inserting and turning the new filter until it clicks into position.

Power Failure:

  • In the event of a power interruption, the appliance will remember previous temperature settings. If the power outage is short, the temperature inside the unit should not be significantly affected, provided the door is not opened frequently. For longer outages, users are advised to take steps to protect the contents, such as minimizing door openings.

Vacation Time:

  • For short holidays (less than three weeks), the unit can be left in operation.
  • For long absences (several months), it is recommended to remove all items, turn off and unplug the appliance, clean and dry the interior thoroughly, and leave the door slightly ajar to prevent odors and mold growth.

Energy Saving Tips:

  • Unplug the appliance if it will be left empty for long periods, clean it, and leave the door ajar.
  • Install the appliance in the coolest area of the room, away from heat sources and direct sunlight.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation and never cover air vents.
  • Clean dust and dirt from the condenser regularly.
  • Open the door only when necessary and for the shortest possible time.
  • Store contents in an organized way and avoid over-filling to allow proper air circulation.

The manual also includes a troubleshooting guide to help users resolve common operating problems before contacting customer service. It covers issues such as the appliance not operating, not cooling sufficiently, frequent cycling, light not working, vibrations, excessive noise, and the door not closing properly.
