Usage Features:

  • Flexible Layout: The layout of doors and windows can be changed by installing relevant logs on opposite sides of the cabin or the front wall. However, the position of XN logs (top wall logs with angled tops) cannot be changed and must have the top angle sloping outwards from the middle of the cabin.
  • Twisted/Warped Timber Handling: The manual provides detailed tips and tricks for installing warped timber, a natural characteristic of wood. Techniques include using warped timbers lower down in the wall, clamping, using a rubber mallet and hitting block, wetting and weighting timber, and utilizing spare logs for cutting.
  • Foundation Requirements: A completely level and stable load-bearing foundation is crucial. The minimum overall base dimension should be 100mm bigger than the external dimensions of the cabin.
  • Door and Window Installation: Doors and windows are designed to "free to realign" to accommodate natural wood movement. Frames are secured with 35mm hex nut screws and washers through slotted holes, positioned towards the top of the slot, and not fully tightened to allow vertical movement.
  • Storm Braces: These are installed after the roof is fitted, either internally or externally, to enhance structural integrity. They attach to the apex or top wall log, with the round hole at the top and the slotted hole at the bottom.
  • Apex Vents: Circular "slatted" grills for the outside (slats downwards) and square "meshed" grills for the inside, fixed with 20mm screws.
  • Optional Features: The manual mentions optional roof insulation, additional doors/windows, and guttering, with references to supplementary documentation for these.

Maintenance Features:

  • Timber Treatment: The manual recommends applying wood treatment/preservative.
  • Troubleshooting:
    • Missing/Damaged Components: Spares are included, and damaged notches can be repaired with glue and screws. For unsuitable spares, contact Customer Services.
    • Door Locks: Instructions are provided for checking deadbolt function and adjusting misaligned locks by repositioning hinges or receivers.
    • Door Closed and Stuck: Solutions include turning the key in both directions and lifting the lead sash under the handle while unlocking to relieve pressure.
    • Timber Splits/Knot Holes and Sap: These are natural properties that typically do not affect integrity. Users are advised to send photographs to Customer Services if a feature is deemed problematic. Sap can be gently cut off once dry.
  • Regular Checks: Users are advised to regularly check if the cabin is square by measuring diagonals and that walls are level, especially every 4 layers of logs during construction.
