Do you have a question about the Dynascan V-600 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The DYNASCAN V-600 is a portable VHF transceiver designed for PMR (Private Mobile Radio) use. It functions as a two-way radio, allowing for both transmission and reception of VHF signals.

Function Description:

The DYNASCAN V-600 is primarily used for short-range communication in various professional and recreational settings. Its core function is to enable voice communication between users on programmed channels. Key operational features include:

  • Power On/Off and Volume Control: A rotary knob ([ON/OFF/VOL] control) is used to power the device on and off, and to adjust the audio volume.
  • Channel Selection: A dedicated channel selector knob allows users to switch between available programmed channels.
  • Transmit/Receive (PTT): The Push-To-Talk ([PTT]) button on the side of the radio is pressed to transmit and released to receive.
  • Monitor Function: The [SQUELCH] side key allows users to temporarily open the squelch, enabling them to listen to background noise or weaker signals and adjust the volume.
  • Emergency Call ([SOS]): A dedicated [SOS] key activates an alarm sound and transmits an alarm signal on the selected channel, providing a safety feature for users in distress.
  • Group Call ([CALL]): The [CALL] key initiates a call to other transceivers within the user's group.
  • Channel Scan: The [VFO/MR] key, when held for 3 seconds, activates the channel scan function, allowing the radio to search for active channels. The channel selector knob can change the scan direction.
  • Keypad Lockout: The [FUN] key followed by the [ENT] key locks the keypad to prevent accidental operation. Repeating the sequence unlocks it.
  • Voice Prompt: The radio provides voice indications for operations performed, enhancing user experience, especially in low-light conditions or when the display is not easily visible.
  • Backlight: The LCD display automatically illuminates for approximately 10 seconds when any key or the channel selector knob is operated.

Important Technical Specifications:

The DYNASCAN V-600 operates within the VHF frequency band and offers a robust set of specifications for reliable performance:

GENERAL:

  • Frequency Range: 136 MHz to 174 MHz (TX/RX). This wide range allows for flexibility in channel allocation within the VHF spectrum.
  • Programmable Channel Number: Up to 256 channels can be programmed, offering extensive communication options.
  • Emission Type: FM (11K0F3E), indicating frequency modulation for voice communication.
  • Channels Separation: 12.5 kHz, which is a standard channel spacing for PMR radios.
  • Antenna Impedance: 50 Ω, a common impedance for radio antennas, ensuring efficient power transfer.
  • Duty Cycle: 100%, suggesting the radio is designed for continuous operation without overheating under normal conditions.
  • Working Temperature: -20 °C to +55 °C, indicating a wide operational temperature range suitable for various environments.
  • Power Supply: 7.4 V Li-Ion battery pack, providing portable power.
  • Dimensions without antenna (mm): 115 (H) x 55 (W) x 35 (D), making it a compact and hand-portable device.
  • Weight (g.): 243 g (with battery pack), highlighting its lightweight design for ease of carrying.

TRANSMITTER:

  • Frequency Stability: ±2.5 ppm, ensuring stable transmission frequencies.
  • Output Power: 5/1 W, offering selectable power levels for different communication ranges and battery efficiency.
  • Maximum Deviation: ±2.5 kHz, specifying the maximum frequency shift during modulation.
  • Audio Distortion: <5% (max.), indicating clear audio transmission.
  • Adjacent Channel Power: ≥60 dB, demonstrating good suppression of signals in adjacent channels.
  • Spurious Emissions: <0.25 μW, ensuring minimal unwanted radio frequency emissions outside the operating channel.

RECEIVER:

  • Sensitivity: 0.28 μV (at 12 dB SINAD), indicating high sensitivity for receiving weak signals.
  • Audio Distortion: <5%, ensuring clear received audio.
  • Adjacent Channel Selectivity: ≥60 dB, showing good ability to reject signals from adjacent channels.
  • Intermodulation: ≥60 dB, indicating resistance to interference from multiple strong signals.
  • Spurious Radiations: ≤2 nW, ensuring minimal unwanted radio frequency emissions from the receiver.

Usage Features:

  • Portability: The compact size and lightweight design make the V-600 highly portable, suitable for field use.
  • Ease of Use: Intuitive controls, including rotary knobs for channel and volume, and clearly labeled keys, contribute to user-friendliness.
  • External Accessories: The device supports optional micro-headsets, which can be connected to a dedicated jack, allowing for hands-free operation and improved communication clarity in noisy environments.
  • Robustness: When the supplied protective cover is correctly attached, the transceiver is resistant to dust and splashes, enhancing its durability in challenging conditions. However, it's important to note that it is not resistant to dust and splashes when an optional accessory is used, as water may seep through the connector.
  • Optimal Communication: For best communication, it is recommended to hold the equipment upright and about 7 cm from the mouth, or to use an external headset. Speaking too close or too loudly into the microphone can cause distortion.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Management:
    • The device uses a 7.4 V Li-Ion battery pack.
    • Before first use, the battery should be fully charged, and two complete charge-discharge cycles are recommended to achieve maximum performance.
    • A desktop charger with an external AC/DC adapter is used for charging.
    • Charging should occur in environments with temperatures between 5°C and 40°C to ensure proper charging and battery longevity.
    • Overcharging should be avoided as it shortens battery life.
    • The battery should be removed from the radio when not in use for extended periods, as it discharges faster when installed.
    • Fully charged batteries should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
    • Contact with metallic objects should be avoided to prevent short-circuits.
  • Cleaning: After prolonged use, keys, controls, and the external casing may get dirty. A slightly damp cloth with a neutral cleaning product should be used. Alcohol or solvents should be avoided.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Do not open, modify, or adjust the transceiver.
    • Do not use the radio if the antenna is damaged.
    • Avoid using the radio in areas with a risk of fire or explosion, or where radio use is prohibited.
    • Do not expose the radio, battery, or charger to direct sunlight, dust, high temperatures, or high humidity for prolonged periods.
    • Maintain a minimum distance of 5 cm between the transceiver and the mouth during transmission.
    • If smoke or unusual odors are detected, immediately turn off the device and contact technical service.
    • Do not hold the transceiver directly by the antenna.
    • Always place the protective cover on the MIC/SP connector when not using a micro-headset to maintain dust and splash resistance.
    • When using headphones or earphones, avoid listening at high volume levels for long periods to prevent hearing damage.
  • Troubleshooting: In case of operational problems, users are advised to contact their salesperson or Authorized Technical Service.
  • Compliance: The device complies with Directive 2012/19/EU on WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) and Directive 2011/65/EU (RoHS), indicating its adherence to environmental and hazardous substance regulations. It must be recycled or dismantled at the end of its useful life.
  • Warranty: The product comes with a 2-year warranty covering manufacturing defects. The warranty does not cover damages from accidents, improper use, non-original accessories, or unauthorized repairs. Rechargeable batteries are considered consumable and have a 15-day notification period for defects from the purchase date. Proof of purchase (invoice or ticket) is required for warranty claims.
