Do you have a question about the E-Z UP INSTANT SHELTER SPRINT and is the answer not in the manual?
The E-Z UP® Instant Shelter® product is a temporary sun shelter designed for quick and easy setup, offering protection from the sun in seconds. It is not intended for use in heavy or prolonged rain storms, or in potentially windy conditions, as wind and rain can damage the shelter and cause injury. The shelter should not be relied upon for protection in such weather and should not be left up for extended periods.
The primary function of the E-Z UP® Instant Shelter® is to provide immediate sun protection. Its design emphasizes portability and rapid deployment, making it suitable for various outdoor activities where temporary shade is needed. The shelter utilizes a Sprint® Frame, a polyester top with silver UV backing, and comes with a 4-piece stake kit and a carry bag for convenience. The frame is engineered for quick expansion and collapse, allowing two people to set it up or take it down efficiently. The fabric top attaches securely to the frame, creating a shaded area.
Setting up the E-Z UP® Instant Shelter® is a straightforward process, ideally performed by two people. To begin, the frame is placed in the center of the desired shaded area. Partners on opposite sides grasp the outer legs, lift the frame off the ground, and step backward, extending their arms fully until the frame is partially open. Next, the top and bottom of the diamond-shaped truss areas are grasped, and the shelter is slightly lifted while pushing hands together and stepping backward until it is fully opened. Care must be taken to avoid pinching fingers or pushing too hard to prevent truss damage. Once the frame is open, the Pull Pin slider at each corner is engaged by pushing up on the slider with one hand while holding down on the top of the leg with the other hand, ensuring the pin engages in the hole. This step is repeated for all remaining legs. Finally, two adjacent outer legs are lifted, and the inner legs are slid out until the snap button locks, a process repeated on the opposite legs, ensuring two legs are done at a time on the same side.
For the first-time attachment of the fabric top, it is gently unfolded and placed over the open frame. The fabric top is then attached to the E-Z UP® frame by matching the hook & loop strips on the top with those on the frame, pulling the corners down fully to secure it.
Taking down the shelter is equally efficient. With a partner, two adjacent outer legs are slightly lifted, the snap button is depressed, and the inner legs are slid into the outer legs. This is repeated on the opposite legs, ensuring two legs are done at a time on the same side. To release the Pull Pin slider at each corner, the fabric top corner is first lifted, and the pin is pulled out. Next, partners on opposite sides grasp the top and bottom of the diamond-shaped truss areas, slightly lift the shelter, shake it gently, and pull their hands apart while stepping towards each other until the shelter is about three-quarters closed. Again, care must be taken to avoid pinching fingers. Finally, two outer legs are grasped, and the frame is pushed together to fully close it, being careful not to pinch fingers. The shelter can then be stored in its roller bag.
Proper care and maintenance are essential for ensuring the long-lasting durability and protection of the E-Z UP® Instant Shelter® product. The top fabric should be cleaned using a mild soap (not detergent) and plenty of water. After cleaning, both the E-Z UP® top and frame must be allowed to dry completely before closing or storing to prevent mildew. Similarly, the inner legs should be dry and clean before sliding them inside the outer legs.
The frame's operation and appearance can be enhanced by occasionally wiping it with silicone spray, especially before and after use in damp conditions. Any excess silicone residue should be removed before applying the top. If the top fabric leaks or drips water, a seam sealer can be applied, which is readily available at most sporting goods and hardware stores. If the frame's bolts become loose over time, they should be slightly tightened.
Several safety precautions are critical for the safe operation of the E-Z UP® Instant Shelter®. It is imperative to always stake or weight down the shelter to prevent it from being lifted or moved by wind. The shelter should never be used in a lightning storm. Users must exercise caution when handling the E-Z UP® frame to avoid pinching hands or fingers as it opens or closes. The shelter should not be left unattended, and fires should never be built under it. A crucial warning states that all flame and heat sources must be kept away from the top fabric. While the top meets the flammability requirements of CPAI-84, the fabric can still burn if in continuous contact with a flame source. Applying any foreign substance to the top may also compromise its flame-resistant properties.
