  If your ECD Measuring Instruments NO3-N reading is high, it could be due to several reasons. First, the ammonium sensor might have drifted, in which case you should perform a single-point calibration. Second, there might be low or no chloride ion compensation; verify that chloride compensation is on and check the chloride ISE reading with a single-point calibration, adjusting the Cl coefficient. Finally, interfering ions like Iodide, Bromide, HS-, Chlorate, Chlorite, Carbonate, Bicarbonate, or Nitrite might be present in the sample; wait for these ions to clear the process.

How to fix low NO3-N reading on ECD Measuring Instruments?

  A low NO3-N reading on your ECD Measuring Instruments can be caused by a few things. It may be due to a dirty coated electrode; clean the sensor by soaking it in a 2% HCU solution for 5 minutes to remove algae, or rinse it with a weak detergent solution for 10-15 seconds to remove oils, then soak it in tap water for 30 minutes after either cleaning method and increase the frequency of the air blast cleaner. Alternatively, the NO3 ISE might be old or expired; perform a two-point calibration and if the slope is not > 40 mV/decade, replace the NO3 sensor. Also, it could be due to inaccurate potassium compensation; verify the Chloride ISE reading with a single-point calibration and adjust the Cl coefficient.

  If your ECD Measuring Instruments shows no response to changing nitrate levels, the issue might stem from a bad electrode. Visually inspect the membrane for cuts and replace the electrode if torn. Remove the electrode and check for breakage, torn o-rings, corrosion, or moisture. If any of these issues are present, replace the old electrode with a new one and check the response; if it's good, recalibrate the HYDRA-DS. Alternatively, the sensor itself might be bad; replace the old electrode with a new one and check the response. If the response is still bad, examine the electrode tube for signs of moisture. If moisture is present, remove the sensor from the installation and allow it to dry out. Retest with a new electrode, and if it still fails, return it to the factory for refurbishment.
