Layla’s rack mount interface. Just because multiple devices are connected to
the same computer doesn’t mean they are synchronized. Next, be sure that
you have selected the desired input clock source in the Console program, or
made the selection on the Clocks menu in the Control Panel.
Problem:
When trying to run sound editor software, such as Cool Edit or
Cubase, the program consistently hangs, and a general protection fault error
is displayed.
Solution
: We have rarely seen this problem, but in those few instances, the
installation included two or more Laylas as well as a MIDI Time piece from
Mark of the Unicorn. The problem is a limitation in the maximum number
of MIDI devices that Windows will allow to be installed and used
concurrently. Windows 95/98 places a limitation of ten such devices.
To cure your problem, you must disable those additional MIDI devices that
are being added by Layla. To do this, double-click on the “Multimedia”
icon on the Windows control panel. Now select the window titled
“Advanced”. Locate the line titled “MIDI Devices and Instruments” and
click on the small plus sign “+” to the left. You should now see the MIDI
devices that are currently installed. To disable those MIDI devices that are
added by Layla, simply double-click on a Layla MIDI device (MIDI for
Layla by Echo), then select the option “Do not use the MIDI features on this
device”. You will need to disable the MIDI functionality on any remaining
Layla MIDI devices that are installed.
Problem:
Recordings made using the S/PDIF port contain occasional pops
or skips.
Solution
: When recording with the S/PDIF port, you must manually select
the S/PDIF clock as the input clock. This can be done using the Console
program or from the Layla Properties screen in the Windows control panel.
