If your Echo Lawn and Garden Equipment engine cranks but struggles to start or doesn't start at all, here are a few things to check: * Make sure fuel is reaching the carburetor; if not, the fuel strainer, fuel line, or carburetor may be clogged and need cleaning or replacement. * Check the spark plug: adjust the gap to .65mm (0.026 in.), clean it, or replace it if it's defective. * If the muffler is wet with fuel, open the choke, clean or replace the air filter, and adjust the carburetor.

      Jennifer HumphreyAug 26, 2025
If your Echo Lawn and Garden Equipment engine cranks but is hard to start, several factors could be at play. It could be due to a clogged fuel strainer or fuel line, or an issue with the carburetor. Try cleaning or replacing these parts. A fuel mixture that's too rich could also be the culprit; in this case, open the choke, clean or replace the air filter, or adjust the carburetor. Also, check the spark plug. If the spark gap is incorrect, adjust it to .65mm (0.026 in.). Clean or replace the plug if it's covered with carbon or fouled with fuel. If the plug is defective, replace it.

What to do if Echo HC-185 engine runs, but dies?
    • J
      Jeffrey OrtegaSep 2, 2025
If your Echo Lawn and Garden Equipment engine runs but dies or doesn't accelerate properly, several issues could be the cause. A dirty air filter, fuel filter, or a plugged fuel vent can restrict fuel and air flow, so clean or replace these components. A dirty or worn spark plug can also cause problems; try cleaning and adjusting it, or replace if necessary. Improper carburetor adjustment may be the issue, so adjust it accordingly. Overheating due to a dirty or plugged cooling system can cause the engine to die, so clean the cooling system. Finally, a plugged spark arrestor screen can restrict exhaust flow, so replace it.
