This document outlines the diagnostic procedure for the Electrolux EHE6899SA and EHE6899BA French door refrigerators. It details the various user interfaces (UIs), how to access and navigate the diagnostic mode, and a comprehensive list of functions available for testing and troubleshooting.
Overview of User Interfaces (UIs)
The refrigerator features three distinct user interfaces, each serving specific control functions:
- Internal UI: This is the primary control panel for the French door/Multi-door product. It manages the various cavities (refrigerator, freezer, etc.) and their associated functions, such as temperature settings, quick freeze, quick chill, and drinks chill.
- External UI (4-button I&W): Located on the left-hand fridge door, this interface is dedicated to controlling the dispenser features, including water and ice dispensing.
- VCZ UI: Situated on the top drawer, this UI is specifically used to control the settings of the Variable Temperature Zone (VCZ) drawer, allowing users to customize its temperature for different storage needs.
The internal UI features a central display that shows temperature and other status indicators. Surrounding the display are several touch-sensitive buttons:
- SELECT (Lock): Used for compartment selection (FF/FZR) and locking the UI. Pressing and holding this button typically activates the lock function.
- Decrease Temperature (-): Adjusts the temperature down for either the Fresh Food (FF) or Freezer (FZR) compartments.
- Increase Temperature (+): Adjusts the temperature up for either the Fresh Food (FF) or Freezer (FZR) compartments.
- Quick Freeze, Quick Chill, Drinks Chill: These are multi-function selection buttons that activate specific cooling modes for rapid chilling or freezing.
- RESET (AIR FILTER): Resets the air filter reminder.
- MODES: Used to cycle through different operational modes or to change the status of functions within the diagnostic mode.
- RESET (WATER FILTER): Resets the water filter reminder.
- ICE MAKER: Controls the ice maker function, allowing users to turn it on or off.
Diagnostic Mode (Service Mode)
The diagnostic mode provides a powerful tool for service technicians to test individual components and monitor various system parameters.
How to Enter and Use the Diagnostic Mode:
- Entry: To enter the diagnostic mode, press and hold the "+" and "-" buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds. Upon successful entry, a tone will sound, and all LEDs on the Internal UI, External I&W UI, and VCZ UI will illuminate, confirming activation of the diagnostic mode.
- Navigation:
- Press the "+" button to progress through the different functions.
- Press the "-" button to return to the previous function.
- Press the MODES button to change the status of the currently displayed function (e.g., turn a component on/off).
- Information Display: Each function in diagnostic mode is associated with a number displayed on the UI. The status of the function is shown for an intermittent duration. For functions that provide extra information (e.g., defrost heater state, evaporator temperature), the display will cycle through: "N° item, status of the item, N° item, status/value of the extra info, N° item, status of the item...".
- Exit: To exit the diagnostic mode and return to normal operation, press and hold the "+" and "-" buttons for 10 seconds again, or unplug the appliance and plug it back in. The appliance will restart in normal mode.

Appendix A: Seven-segment display character representation
This appendix provides a visual guide to how numbers (0-9) and letters (A-Z) are represented on the seven-segment display, which is crucial for interpreting the information shown in diagnostic mode. This ensures technicians can correctly read the displayed codes, statuses, and values during troubleshooting.
