Overview

This document is a user manual for the Electrolux ESS47420SX dishwasher, providing comprehensive information on its safe installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description

The Electrolux ESS47420SX is a household-type dishwasher designed for cleaning dishes and tableware in an indoor environment. It is suitable for single household domestic use and can also be used in offices, hotel guest rooms, bed & breakfast guest rooms, and farm guest rooms where usage does not exceed average domestic levels. The appliance is designed to be installed with a grounding connection in the building for electrical safety. It features a water softener system to remove minerals from the water supply, which helps prevent negative effects on washing results and the appliance itself. The dishwasher also incorporates an AirDry function, which automatically opens the door during the drying phase to improve drying results and reduce energy consumption.

The dishwasher offers a range of programmes tailored to different load types and soil degrees, including ECO, 160min, 90min, 60min, 30min, AUTO, and a cleaning programme for the appliance interior. The AUTO programme intelligently senses the degree of soil and the quantity of items, adjusting temperature, water quantity, energy consumption, and duration accordingly. A rinse programme is also available to quickly rinse off food remains and prevent odours without using detergent.

Usage Features

To operate the dishwasher, users first activate it by pressing the on/off button, ensuring it is in programme selection mode. Programmes are selected using the "P" button, and the display shows the programme duration. The appliance allows for the setting of various options before starting a programme, such as GlassCare, ExtraPower, and ExtraHygiene.

  • GlassCare protects delicate items, especially glassware, by preventing rapid temperature changes and reducing the wash temperature to 45 °C.
  • ExtraPower enhances washing results by increasing wash temperature and duration.
  • ExtraHygiene provides superior cleaning by maintaining a temperature between 65 and 70 °C for at least 10 minutes during the final rinsing phase.

The dishwasher also supports a delay start function, allowing users to postpone the programme start from 1 to 24 hours. The display counts down the remaining time until the programme begins.

Loading the dishwasher correctly is crucial for optimal results. Users are advised to load the baskets to their full capacity, remove large food residues, and avoid pre-rinsing dishes by hand. Hollow items should be placed with their openings facing downwards, and items should not touch each other to ensure proper water circulation. Cutlery and small items go into the cutlery basket, and the upper basket can be adjusted to accommodate larger items in the lower basket.

Detergent, rinse aid, and salt are essential for effective cleaning. The manual provides instructions on filling the salt container and rinse aid dispenser. For detergent, powder or tablets are placed in the designated compartment, with a small quantity added to the inner door for programmes with a prewash phase. The amount of detergent should be adjusted based on water hardness, and multi-tablets may not fully dissolve in short programmes. The water softener level should be set according to local water hardness to ensure good washing results and keep the salt refill indicator active. The rinse aid empty notification can be activated or deactivated based on user preference and detergent type.

The AirDry function, when active, automatically opens the door during the drying phase. Users are cautioned not to close the door within 2 minutes of automatic opening to prevent damage. If children have access to the appliance, deactivating AirDry is recommended for safety.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is vital for the dishwasher's performance and longevity. The manual outlines several cleaning procedures:

  • Internal Cleaning: The appliance interior should be cleaned with a soft damp cloth. A cleaning product designed for dishwashers should be used at least once every two months, following the product's instructions. Running long-duration programmes regularly (at least twice a month) helps prevent grease and limescale buildup, especially if short-duration programmes are frequently used.
  • External Cleaning: The exterior should be cleaned with a moist soft cloth and neutral detergents. Abrasive products, cleaning pads, sharp tools, or solvents should not be used. The door, including the rubber gasket, should be wiped clean weekly.
  • Filter Cleaning: The filter system, consisting of three parts, needs regular checking and cleaning. Users are instructed to turn the filter counterclockwise to remove it, then separate and wash all three filter components. After cleaning, the filters must be reassembled and correctly positioned to avoid poor washing results and appliance damage.
  • Spray Arm Cleaning: The lower spray arm should be cleaned regularly to prevent clogging. It can be removed by pulling it upwards, washed under running water, and any soil particles removed with a thin pointed tool. The upper spray arm should not be removed, but its openings can be cleaned with a toothpick if clogged.

The manual also provides troubleshooting guidance for common issues and alarm codes, such as the appliance not activating, programmes not starting, water filling or draining problems, and unsatisfactory washing or drying results. For issues not covered, users are advised to contact an Authorised Service Centre. The document emphasizes the importance of using original spare parts for repairs and warns against self-repair or non-professional repair, which can void the guarantee.
