Overview

This document is a Use & Care Guide for a Frigidaire dishwasher, providing comprehensive instructions for its operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description

The Frigidaire dishwasher is designed to clean dishes and tableware by spraying a mixture of hot, clean water and detergent against soiled surfaces. The appliance fills with water, which is then pumped through a multiple filter system and spray arms. Separated soil particles are drained out as clean water replaces the soiled water. The number of water fills varies depending on the selected wash cycle.

The dishwasher features a Smart Wash System that automatically adjusts the wash cycle based on the soil level and load size, ensuring efficient cleaning. For partial loads of lightly soiled dishes, a shorter wash cycle is performed, while a full load of heavily soiled dishes triggers a heavy wash cycle. A Multiple Filter System, consisting of three mesh filters, separates soiled water from clean water in different chambers, contributing to better performance with less water and energy.

The appliance includes a detergent and rinse aid dispenser that automatically releases the measured amounts at the appropriate times during the wash cycles. Rinse aid is crucial for improving drying performance, reducing water spots, and preventing filming. The Heat Dry option, when selected, activates a heating element during the drying process, though its effectiveness is enhanced with rinse aid.

Usage Features

The dishwasher offers several wash cycle selections to accommodate different types of loads and soil levels:

  • Heavy Wash: Recommended for pots, pans, casseroles, and dinnerware with light to heavily soiled loads.
  • Normal Wash: Suitable for lightly to heavily soiled loads.
  • 1 Hour Wash: A shorter wash for lightly soiled loads that do not require drying.
  • China Crystal: Specifically designed for lightly soiled china and crystal.
  • Energy Saver: Recommended for lightly soiled and pre-rinsed dishes and silverware.
  • Rinse Only: For pre-rinsing dishes or glasses to prevent food from drying and reduce odor buildup, without using detergent.

Various wash options can be selected to customize the cleaning process:

  • Sanitize: Maintains water temperature at 156.2°F (69°C) max for sanitization, available with Heavy Wash and Normal Wash cycles.
  • High Temp: Maintains water temperature at 140°F (60°C) max, suitable for heavier soil loads.
  • Heat Dry: Activates the heating element during drying.

The control panel includes several functions for user convenience:

  • START/Cancel: Initiates a wash cycle or cancels a cycle in progress by holding for 3 seconds.
  • Delay: Allows delaying the start of the dishwasher from 1 to 24 hours.
  • Control Lock: Locks all controls to prevent accidental changes or starts, activated by holding both "Option" and "Delay" buttons for 3 seconds.

The dishwasher features an LED display window that shows the remaining time in a running cycle, delay hours, or error codes. Cycle progress indicators (Delay, Washing, Clean, Sanitized) illuminate to show the current stage of the wash cycle.

Loading instructions emphasize proper placement of dishes to ensure effective cleaning. Sharp items and knives should be loaded with handles up to reduce injury risk. Plastic items must be marked "dishwasher safe." The upper basket is designed for small plates, mugs, glasses, and plastic items, with bowls, cups, and glasses facing down or towards the center for better drainage. The lower basket accommodates plates, soup bowls, saucers, and cookware, with adjustable basket space and fold-down tines for larger items. The silverware basket can be divided into three separate modules for flexible placement in both upper and lower racks. It is crucial to ensure that loaded dishes do not interfere with the rotation of the spray arms.

Adding a dish during a cycle is possible by opening the door slightly until wash action stops, adding the item, and then closing the door firmly and pressing START/Cancel to resume.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is essential for optimal performance and longevity of the dishwasher.

  • Exterior Cleaning: Spills on the outside should be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using benzene, wax, thinner, chlorine bleach, or alcohol, as these can discolor or stain surfaces. For stainless steel door panels, a stainless steel cleaner and a soft cloth are recommended.
  • Interior Cleaning: The interior should be periodically cleaned to remove dirt and food particles. Wiping the inside of the dishwasher and the inner part of the door with a wet dishcloth is advised. Running an empty dishwasher with detergent using the Normal or Express 60 cycle with the Sanitize option helps keep it clean. For white spots and odors, running a Normal cycle empty without detergent, then interrupting it to add 8 ounces of white vinegar to the lower basket before letting the cycle finish, can be effective.
  • Filter System Cleaning: The filter system, located at the bottom of the dishwasher, requires regular cleaning. To clean, turn off the dishwasher, rotate the filter insert counterclockwise to detach it, and then remove the fine filter. Any dirt or food remains should be rinsed off under running water. After cleaning, reassemble the filters in reverse order, ensuring the filter insert is properly closed to maintain performance.
  • Lower Spray Arm Cleaning: If cleaning performance is inadequate or spray arm nozzles are clogged, the lower spray arm can be removed by pulling it upwards. Check and clean any clogged nozzle holes, then push the spray arm back into place and rotate it to ensure proper seating.
  • Door Gasket Cleaning: To prevent leaks and ensure proper door closure, the door gasket should be kept clear of debris. Clean it with a damp cloth to remove food particles and maintain a tight seal.

The manual also provides a troubleshooting guide, "Before You Call," listing common problems, possible causes, and solutions to help users resolve issues without needing service. This includes problems like the dishwasher not starting, operating too long, dishes not being clean or dry enough, spots and film on dishes, noises, and error codes (i1 for longer inlet time, i4 for unit leaking). It advises checking water pressure, inlet water temperature, proper loading, detergent use, and ensuring the water valve is on and the door is closed. For overflow or leaks, turning off the main water supply and removing water from the base pan are crucial before restarting.
