MATERIALS TO BE AVOIDED IN MICROWAVE OVEN
Materials that must not be used/placed in a microwave oven:
Aluminium trays Can cause sparks. Transfer the food to a microwave safe vessel.
Food boxes with
metal handles
Can cause sparks. Transfer the food to a microwave safe vessel.
Metal vessels
or vessels with
metal parts
Metal shields the food from microwave energy. Metal decorations/
parts can cause sparks.
Metal bag closers Can cause sparks and fires in the oven.
Paper bags Can cause fires in the oven.
Plastic foam When exposed to high temperatures, plastic foam can melt or can
poison the liquid it contains.
Wood If used in a microwave oven, wood dries out and may crack.
